His refusal to stump for Paxton, beyond casting a ballot for him, reveals the extent of the bad blood between the Lone Star State Republicans and presents a lingering point of contention that could undermine Paxton\u2019s efforts to win over Cornyn voters as <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/4583632\/james-talarico-and-ken-paxton-court-the-cornyn-vote\/\">Talarico also courts them<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Leadership-aligned Republicans, including Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD), aggressively favored Cornyn. That includes Trump\u2019s appointment to <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/senate\/4599998\/gop-antsy-over-pulte-as-democrats-vow-fisa-revolt\/\">lead the nation\u2019s intelligence community<\/a> and a nearly $1.8 billion \u201canti-weaponization fund\u201d from the administration that could benefit U.S. Capitol rioters. An effort by Cornyn before the primary to designate <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/infrastructure\/\">U.S. Route 287<\/a> as \u201cTrump Interstate\u201d is <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/infrastructure\/4595733\/cornyn-trump-highway-renaming-not-a-priority\/\">no longer among his priorities<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Sen.
