This is a record low level of support for transgender ideology, with 57 percent of respondents saying they find it morally wrong.<\/p>\n<p>In the past five years, the share of Americans who find transgenderism morally acceptable has <a href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/opinion\/polling-matters\/694550\/trends-adults-acceptance-moral-values-behaviors.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">declined<\/a> by 8 points. Still, there is a large partisan gap. Sixty percent of Democrats find it acceptable compared to 5 percent of Republicans.<\/p>\n<div id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-2266437058\" class=\"d-flex justify-content-center fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 fdrlst__b89e9-entity-placement\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>This data follows a wave of backlash against transgenderism, particularly regarding surgeries for <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/03\/25\/trans-kids-is-a-dying-trend\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">minors<\/a>. Earlier this year, a New York State jury <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/02\/03\/health\/gender-surgery-malpractice-varian.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">awarded<\/a> a woman $2 million after she underwent a double mastectomy at the age of 16. This is one of <a href=\"https:\/\/themisresourcefund.org\/detransitioner-cases\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">several<\/a> cases of detransitioners suing after regretting having surgery as minors.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, the Supreme Court case <em><a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/06\/18\/in-landmark-skrmetti-case-justice-thomas-demolishes-the-expert-class\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">U.S. v. Skrmetti<\/a><\/em>  dealt a major blow to trans activists. In a 6-3 ruling, the court upheld a Tennessee law that prohibited the surgical and chemical castration of minors. In his concurrent opinion, Associate Justice Clarence Thomas lambasted the \u201cexpert class\u201d for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/major-media-companies-including-disney-warnermedia-comcast-paramount-to-run-glaad-ad-promoting-transgenderism\/\" title=\"Major Media Companies Including Disney, Warnermedia, Comcast, &amp; Paramount to Run GLAAD Ad Promoting Transgenderism\">promoting transgender ideology<\/a> under the guise of \u201cscience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Detransitioner Prisha Mosley, who <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >began taking cross-sex hormones<\/a> at 17 years old, said doctors <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/02\/26\/detransitioner-gender-affirming-care-was-the-least-caring-thing-ever-done-to-me\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">affirmed<\/a> her delusions. \u201cI had my healthy breasts removed because I believed I was broken and that more medical procedures could fix me,\u201d Mosley said. \u201cToday, I live with the permanent consequences of those decisions.\u201d The increase in detransitioners speaking out goes hand-in-hand with the decline in trans acceptance.<\/p>\n<p>The Trump administration has also responded to this cultural shift by taking steps to <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/05\/28\/bidens-trans-crazed-effort-to-flip-title-ix-on-its-head-is-finally-dead\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reverse<\/a> Biden-era policies that attempted to force men into women\u2019s bathrooms and sports teams. This includes reversing the Biden administration\u2019s Title IX <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/01\/31\/trumps-education-department-ends-bidens-harmful-title-ix-social-experiment-on-children\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">overhaul<\/a>, which attempted to block sex-segregated spaces and force students and teachers to comply with \u201cpreferred pronouns.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This new data is in line with other cultural trends in recent years, such as Generation Z\u2019s shift towards <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/03\/26\/gen-z-is-the-most-conservative-generation-in-decades-because-theyre-a-victim-of-the-lefts-failures\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">conservatism<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/04\/24\/heres-what-faithful-churches-need-to-do-with-the-surge-in-young-parishioners\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">religion<\/a>. Gen Zers, who were raised in the era of intense DEI and LGBT propaganda, trend far more conservative than previous generations.<\/p>\n<p>Support for other contentious issues, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/poll\/710810\/support-lgbtq-issues-remains-down-peak.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">same-sex marriage<\/a> and abortion, is also down. The same poll found that only 18 percent of Republicans and 49 percent of Independents find <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/sbaprolife\/status\/2064335032773169416?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">abortion<\/a> morally acceptable.<\/p>\n<p>Although this data shows a trend toward conservative values, the pro-LGBT movement continues to fight. The Montana Supreme Court <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/04\/20\/montanas-top-court-says-its-unconstitutional-for-drivers-licenses-to-say-men-are-men\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recently<\/a> ruled in a 5-2 decision that requiring citizens to report their true sex on state documents such as driver\u2019s licenses is \u201cdiscrimination.\u201d This ruling means people in Montana can choose to place a false sex designation on their driver\u2019s licenses, birth certificates, and more.<\/p>\n<p>Still, given recent polling, there is reason to believe that the public is rejecting transgender ideology after years of left-wing cultural domination. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<div class=\"article-author-description fst-italic\">      Skye Graham is an intern at The Federalist.
