He claimed that all major companies would attend a white House meeting on the topic, which he said would take place this week.<\/p>\n<p>However, multiple sources in the AI industry and at the White House told *The Washington Examiner* that no such meeting was scheduled and that some companies had not been engaged in the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >equity-related discussions trump referenced<\/a>. One source suggested the situation may have grown out of an initial conversation with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/doomsday-document-predicted-food-shortages-two-years-ago\/\" title=\"\u201cDoomsday Document\u201d Predicted Food Shortages Two Years Ago\">single executive<\/a>.Several sources believe OpenAI CEO Sam Altman may have helped prompt the idea, arguing that government backing could protect a company from failing. Four sources familiar with the matter told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> that certain AI companies had not been engaged in the conversations the president alluded to.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThat kind of caught some people off guard. I think it was one of those things that you might have had one conversation with one guy, and it turned into like this whole thing,\u201d one source explained. \u201cThat was largely an overexaggeration. He probably did have that [talk] with one person.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Multiple sources told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> that they believe OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is the person who put the idea in Trump\u2019s head as a means of further insulating his company.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap\" style=\"min-height:5px;\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" style=\"display:none;\">Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-16\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-2\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s hard to fail when the government is attached to you,\u201d one person familiar surmised.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re not surprised that this was something that the president would consider, and we don\u2019t endorse the business model,\u201d a second AI industry source added. \u201cThe first thought that we had was this is probably an OpenAI conversation, because OpenAI would rather have some level of government support to ensure that they don\u2019t go belly up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A person familiar with Anthropic\u2019s conversations with the government said the company regularly engages with the Trump administration, including on the security-focused executive order Trump signed in early June, but had not entered into \u201cany conversations around equity.\u201d Representatives for OpenAI and xAI, Elon Musk\u2019s AI company, declined to comment for this story.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wex-ad-wrap\" style=\"min-height:5px;\"><span class=\"wex-ad-label\" style=\"display:none;\">Advertisement<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-3182201-17\" data-wex-ad=\"art-dsk-inart-3\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">White House officials declined to characterize conversations the president has had with tech executives or comment on plans to schedule the meeting the president held last week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe\u00a0White House\u00a0continues to proactively engage across government and industry,\u201d one official wrote simply.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A former top Trump White House aide, however, told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> that the president\u2019s comments from last Friday are \u201cclassic Trump\u201d and should be viewed as an \u201copening move\u201d in getting the ball rolling on talks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/4597044\/trump-meet-ai-companies-white-house-explores-public-stake-industry\/\"><strong>TRUMP TO MEET WITH AI COMPANIES AS WHITE HOUSE EXPLORES PUBLIC STAKE IN INDUSTRY<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe media wants to talk about \u2018Oh, he said there\u2019s a meeting, but there isn\u2019t a meeting,\u2019 but this is actually 4D chess,\u201d that person assessed. \u201cThe story isn\u2019t that he said this before the meeting was scheduled.
