Trump\u2019s handpicked candidate, David Flippo, faces James Settelmeyer, who is backed by gov. Joe Lombardo adn Amodei. The seat is seen as safely Republican in November, making the primary\u2019s outcome the main fight.<\/p>\n<p>The article frames the contest as a test of how effective Trump\u2019s endorsements remain after recent setbacks in Iowa. Trump-endorsed Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-IA) lost to Zach Lahn in the Republican gubernatorial primary. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prior to Feenstra\u2019s loss, Trump\u2019s winning streak with endorsements included defeating Sens. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) and John Cornyn (R-TX), as well as Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY).<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Amodei wrote off Trump\u2019s endorsement of Flippo late last month as he reaffirmed his support for Settelmeyer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe home team has done just fine,\u201d the Nevada congressman <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AmodeiForNevada\/status\/2060477762712883276?s=20\">wrote<\/a>. \u201cThe time has not come for a national private political organization to pick for Nevadans, who speaks for them in the U.S. House of Representatives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Flippo was running in Nevada\u2019s 4th Congressional District, which is anchored in Las Vegas, before flipping to the northern 2nd District when Amodei announced his retirement. He also ran in the 4th District in 2024 but narrowly lost the GOP primary.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He has also drawn some criticism for recently moving to Reno. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWith all due respect Mr. President, Nevada already has five representatives who live in Clark County,\u201d he continued. \u201cYour endorsement if followed, would make it six out of six. CD-2 has been especially good to you throughout your three runs. This endorsement is an incredibly curious way to say thank you to those people who have been the bedrock of your political endeavors here in original Nevada.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Amodei announced his retirement earlier this year after serving eight terms in the House.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are an additional 11 candidates in the mix, but Flippo and Settelmeyer are considered the front-runners.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Settelmeyer has a long legislative resume, previously serving as state Senate minority leader and director of the Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.\u00a0But even he has brandished his Trump bona fides throughout the primary. In one <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/host2.adimpact.com\/admo\/viewer\/8253c9b5-bf7b-4738-9377-3562419daa5e\">ad<\/a>, Settelmeyer touts his role as co-chairman of Trump\u2019s 2020 Nevada campaign.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Flippo and his allies have tried to position him as the true Trump candidate. Flippo has been endorsed by Turning Point Action, Freedom Caucus, and the Club for Growth, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/texas-gov-pushes-legislation-to-curb-big-tech-content-moderation\/\" title=\"Texas Gov Pushes Legislation to Curb Big Tech Content Moderation\">conservative advocacy group<\/a> that has spent significantly on Flippo. One <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/host2.adimpact.com\/admo\/viewer\/25b448be-bda4-49da-9d9f-62d9f06ac0b6\">ad<\/a> from Club for Growth says \u201cPresident Trump needs reinforcements in Congress\u201d and touts the president\u2019s support of Flippo.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Air Force veteran also has the backing of the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washoegop.org\/\">Washoe GOP<\/a>, the most populous county in the northern Nevada district. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/4597065\/house-gop-legislative-backlog-midterms\/\">HOUSE GOP FACES GROWING LEGISLATIVE BACKLOG AHEAD OF MIDTERMS<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite his endorsement of Settelmeyer, Lombardo and the president seem to be on good terms.
