He was sentenced in 2024 to 25 years in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hunter-biden-defector-emails-pipeline-to-obama-admin-seen-as-currency\/\" title=\"Hunter Biden Defector Emails: &#039;Pipeline&#039; to Obama Admin Seen as &#039;Currency&#039;\">federal prison<\/a> for defrauding investors of more than $1.7 billion.<\/p>\n<p>The article notes that onyl President Donald Trump has the authority to <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >grant pardons<\/a>. In January, the New York Times outlined hypothetical clemency scenarios to Trump, including Bankman-Fried\u2019s, and Trump indicated then that he did not plan to pardon the FTX founder. In a separate Fox Business interview, Bankman-Fried said he would be \u201cabsolutely\u201d interested in a presidential pardon, adding that any decision rests with the president rather than him. He did not say whether anyone connected to him has contacted the White House.<\/p>\n<p>Bankman-Fried is serving his sentence at FCI Lompoc I in California, with a listed release date of June 17, 2044. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-says-he-wont-pull-tanden-nomination-as-key-dem-refuses-support-over-partisan-concerns\/\" title=\"Biden Says He Won\u2019t Pull Tanden Nomination As Key Dem Refuses Support Over \u2018Partisan\u2019 Concerns\">president suggested<\/a> at the time that he had no intention of pardoning the FTX founder.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fox Business <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/politics\/sam-bankman-fried-says-he-absolutely-wants-presidential-pardon-from-inside-his-federal-prison-cell\">asked<\/a> Bankman-Fried whether he would be interested in a pardon in an interview that aired this week. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAbsolutely,\u201d he responded over the phone from prison. \u201cIt would be, obviously, you know, ultimately up to the president, not up to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bankman-Fried would not answer whether his parents or anyone else in his orbit has been in contact with the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/section\/news\/white-house\/\" type=\"category\" id=\"125\">White House<\/a>. Anyone can request a presidential pardon, and an open case does not suggest that the application will be approved.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bankman-Fried is currently incarcerated at Federal Correctional Institution, Lompoc I, a low-security facility in central <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/california\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"60\">California<\/a>.
