The chamber still faces major must-pass items-including government funding, the highway bill, the farm bill, and a $70 billion immigration enforcement measure already approved by the Senate-as well as an urgent need to extend FISA, which expires Friday. Republicans also suggest the Senate is the main bottleneck, pointing to stalling tactics there, while some House GOP members don\u2019t view slow progress as politically harmful because they prefer getting home in their districts.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats,meanwhile,argue the House\u2019s limited activity is a campaign weakness and have sought to exploit the GOP\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/government-funding-bill-election-integrity-implode-in-u-s-house\/\" title=\"Government Funding ..., Election Integrity Implode In U.S. House\">razor-thin control<\/a> by forcing votes during the days the chamber is in session. President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\">Donald Trump\u2019s<\/a> appointment of <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/bill-pulte\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"22738\">Bill Pulte<\/a> as acting director of national intelligence may imperil the FISA bill.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The deadline comes as House GOP leadership has cancelled nine of the past 17 scheduled voting days because of internal divisions and gridlock.\u00a0Late last month, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) canceled both Tuesday and Friday for voting days, leaving only two days on which members voted on legislation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But Republicans aren\u2019t too worried about the slow pace of progress. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe largest hurdle obstructing the House of Representatives from accomplishing success on behalf of the American people is the Senate,\u201d one GOP staffer told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cIf they were to pass the bills the House has sent over, like DHS funding or housing, we would not see the disruptions in schedule we do. Their deliberate stalling of legislation is hindering the productiveness of our seven-month-to-go trifecta.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nor do they see it as an electoral liability. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m for less government, so the less we are there, the better,\u201d one GOP member told the <em>Washington Examiner.<\/em> \u201cPlus, the more opportunities to be home in our districts listening and being with our families and constituents, the better. We spend too much time in D.C. as it is.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Democrats, however, have taken notice and could try to turn the House\u2019s lack of productivity into a campaign argument.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHouse Republicans continue to remind voters that they are a complete and total failure when it comes to delivering for the American people. [Last] week, Republicans in the Congress worked only two days in D.C.,\u201d the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/mailchi.mp\/dccc.org\/house-republicans-call-it-quits-on-another-voting-day?e=5668739236\">said<\/a> in a press release Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Democrats have also taken advantage of Johnson\u2019s razor-thin majority to command the floor when they can.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just last week, the minority party forced three votes during the two days the House was in session. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThey made life worse for the American people, and so that\u2019s one of the reasons why I\u2019m convinced that Republicans continue to cancel votes and do everything they can every week to get out of town before Sunday,\u201d Jeffries said last week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The House passed a resolution Wednesday to rein in Trump\u2019s war powers in Iran, as <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/foreign-policy\/4576195\/house-clears-resolution-to-rein-in-trumps-war-powers\/\">four Republicans joined all Democrats<\/a> to get the measure across the finish line.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/4596159\/golden-rules-out-replacing-platner-on-ballot-amid-scandals\/\"><strong>GOLDEN RULES OUT REPLACING PLATNER ON BALLOT AMID SCANDALS<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They also voted to <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/4595078\/18-house-republicans-defy-trump-and-vote-to-send-1-3-billion-to-ukraine\/\">send an additional $1.3 billion<\/a> in aid to Ukraine and impose new sanctions on Russia, as 18 Republicans joined nearly every Democrat to pass the measure. This bill was brought to the floor through a discharge petition.
