The framework also calls for \u201cpilot zones\u201d where the Lebanese Armed forces would take exclusive control, excluding non-state actors. The new ceasefire agreement added clear steps for <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/hezbollah\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"814\">Hezbollah<\/a> to take, which included its exit from southern Lebanon and a cessation of fire against Israel. As with the previous ceasefire announcements, Hezbollah is unlikely to abide by the agreement, given its continued exclusion from talks. The ceasefire is contingent on a complete cessation of Hizbollah fire and the evacuation of all Hezbollah operatives from the South Litani Sector,\u201d a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/releases\/office-of-the-spokesperson\/2026\/06\/joint-statement-of-the-united-states-of-america-republic-of-lebanon-and-state-of-israel-on-the-latest-high-level-trilateral-meeting\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/releases\/office-of-the-spokesperson\/2026\/06\/joint-statement-of-the-united-states-of-america-republic-of-lebanon-and-state-of-israel-on-the-latest-high-level-trilateral-meeting\/\">joint statement<\/a> from the three negotiating parties read.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe two sides agreed with the guidance of the United States to swiftly advance the creation of pilot zones in which the Lebanese Armed Forces will take exclusive control of the territory to the exclusion of all non-state actors,\u201d it added \u2014 a new stipulation of the ceasefire framework.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The statement was openly hostile toward Hezbollah, saying, \u201cAll countries reaffirmed that the future of the relationship between Israel and Lebanon must be decided by the two sovereign governments. They rejected any attempt, by any state or\u202fnon-state actor, to hold Lebanon\u2019s future hostage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The comment was an obvious slight against Hezbollah, which has <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >established effective control<\/a> over much of Lebanon for decades. Even in its degraded state, the militant group is still several times more powerful than the Lebanese government. The statement also condemned Iran\u2019s attacks on countries in the Middle East, and \u201congoing activities that undermine stability throughout the Middle East, whether through support for proxies and all other\u202facts of aggression.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the ceasefire was made public, Hezbollah chief Naim Qassem called negotiations \u201cshameless\u201d and said the deal is a \u201csurrender and defeat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The three negotiating parties established that they would reconvene the week of June 22 for further talks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Though a ceasefire in Lebanon was announced in April, it has essentially only existed on paper. Hezbollah and Israel have continued attacks against each other unabated, with each blaming provocations from the other as the reason for their attacks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Further casting doubt on the viability of the new ceasefire announcement were comments from Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz on Thursday. He said Israel\u2019s operations in Lebanon would continue unabated, and that residents from southern Lebanon wouldn\u2019t be able to return home.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The failure of a ceasefire in Lebanon has thrown the viability of a continued ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran in question. Earlier this week, Tehran said it would withdraw from negotiations altogether unless a true ceasefire was implemented in southern Lebanon, sparking a flurry of diplomatic activity to manage the situation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The issue of Lebanon has emerged as a key friction point between the U.S. and Israel, with President<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"4\"> Donald Trump<\/a> confirming on Wednesday that he cursed out Israeli Prime Minister<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/benjamin-netanyahu\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"378\"> Benjamin Netanyahu<\/a> in a phone call over Israel\u2019s actions in Lebanon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/world\/4592575\/iran-hits-kuwait-bahrain-damaging-attacks-ceasefire\/\" type=\"post\" id=\"4592575\">IRAN HITS KUWAIT AND BAHRAIN IN ONE OF MOST DAMAGING ATTACKS SINCE CEASEFIRE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou\u2019re f***ing crazy.
