Tony Evers is doubling down on seemingly defying a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling on so-called \u201cconversion therapy\u201d for children. <\/p>\n<p>The moment came during a Monday \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=PCGjIwIh304\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pride Flag Raising<\/a>\u201d event at the State Capitol. While flanked by attendees waiving rainbow flags, the left-wing governor <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BreitbartNews\/status\/2062016247139606551?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bragged<\/a> about vetoing bills passed by the Republican-controlled General Assembly that he claimed \u201ctarget[ed]\u201d so-called \u201ctrans kids\u201d and \u201charm[ed] the health, safety, and security of LGBTQ Wisconsinites.\u201d <\/p>\n<div id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-308928324\" class=\"d-flex justify-content-center fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 fdrlst__b89e9-entity-placement\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>In doing so, Evers went on to tout a June 2021 <a href=\"https:\/\/evers.wi.gov\/Documents\/EO\/EO122-Conversion%20Therapy.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">executive order<\/a> he signed \u201cbanning the use of state and federal funds for conversion therapy on our kids.\u201d The governor\u2019s administration also adopted a rule declaring it \u201cunprofessional conduct\u201d for any state Marriage and Family Therapy, Professional Counseling, and Social Work Examining Board licensee to provide therapy that tells the truth about sex and gender ideology. The regulation took effect last year following a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wpr.org\/news\/wisconsin-supreme-court-conversion-therapy-ban-evers-marklein\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">favorable ruling<\/a> from Wisconsin\u2019s liberal Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>In his Monday remarks, Evers decried efforts \u201cfighting against\u201d his attempts to prohibit the practice and reaffirmed his intention to maintain his administration\u2019s ban.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have no intention of repealing the ban on \u2026 conversion therapy on kids. Period. End of story. Salazar ruling and preserve an unconstitutional ban on therapists discouraging sexual mutilation as a solution to childhood gender dysphoria:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have no intention of repealing the ban on\u2026 conversion\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/QAYfKGfoGH\">pic.twitter.com\/QAYfKGfoGH<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart News (@BreitbartNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BreitbartNews\/status\/2062016247139606551?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 3, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/span> <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The Democrat governor\u2019s comments appear to be in response to criticisms from the Wisconsin Institute for Life &#038; Liberty (WILL) and Wisconsin Family Action. <\/p>\n<p>The two conservative groups sent a <a href=\"https:\/\/will-law.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Demand-Letter-FINAL.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">joint letter<\/a> to Evers on April 14 contending that the \u201cunconstitutional and unenforceable\u201d rule \u201csubstantively mirrors\u201d a Colorado statute that the U.S. Supreme Court recently found to be unlawful. They demanded that, in light of the high court\u2019s decision, Evers and his team must repeal the regulation.<\/p>\n<p>In <em>Chiles v. Salazar<\/em>, SCOTUS <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/03\/31\/8-1-scotus-nukes-egregious-colorado-ban-on-therapists-helping-gender-confused-clients\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ruled<\/a> (8-1) that Colorado\u2019s prohibition on therapists counseling gender-confused kids on getting out of \u201ctrans\u201d ideology \u201cregulates speech based on viewpoint, and the lower courts erred by failing to apply sufficiently rigorous First Amendment scrutiny.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As The Federalist\u2019s Breccan Thies observed, the Colorado statute essentially \u201cused the state\u2019s licensing power to enact an \u2018affirmation\u2019 only approach to gender confusion in minors, instead requiring doctors and therapists to provide \u2018Acceptance, support, and understanding for \u2026 identity exploration and development,\u2019 and \u2018Assistance to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/scotus-to-rule-on-government-strangling-therapists-speech\/\" title=\"SCOTUS To Rule On Government Strangling ...&#039; Speech\">person undergoing gender transition<\/a>.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Evers responded to WILL and Wisconsin Family Action in a May 5 <a href=\"https:\/\/wisconsinexaminer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/5.5.2026-WILL-Response-Letter_signed47.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">letter<\/a>, in which he said that his administration \u201chas no intention of repealing Wisconsin\u2019s conversion therapy ban.\u201d He further asserted that the rule would remain in effect \u201cbecause <em>Chiles<\/em> is continuing in the lower courts,\u201d and that <em>Chiles <\/em>\u201cconcerned only Colorado\u2019s conversion therapy prohibition as it applied to talk therapy \u2014 not to other treatment, such as physical or medication interventions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>WILL responded with action of its own a week later, <a href=\"https:\/\/will-law.org\/counselors-sue-evers-admin-over-christian-counseling-ban\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">filing<\/a> a <a href=\"https:\/\/will-law.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/1.-Complaint-Verified-w-Signatures.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">federal lawsuit<\/a> challenging the rule\u2019s legality on behalf of two state-licensed therapists. The group argued that the Wisconsin regulation \u201cis materially identical to the Colorado law\u201d and \u201cis unconstitutional under the First Amendment as impermissible viewpoint discrimination.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we notified the Evers administration of this fact, we were met with a blatant refusal to follow the Supreme Court holding, along with inflammatory, baseless rhetoric accusing WILL of \u2018bullying\u2019 children and Wisconsinites,\u201d WILL Deputy Counsel Rebecca Furdek <a href=\"https:\/\/will-law.org\/counselors-sue-evers-admin-over-christian-counseling-ban\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> in a statement at the time. \u201cHowever, Wisconsin counselors have every right to provide Christ-centered talk therapy to the clients who seek them out for that type of counseling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin. <\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<div class=\"article-author-description fst-italic\">      Shawn Fleetwood is a staff writer for The Federalist and a graduate of the University of Mary Washington.
