OKs ... To Block &#039;Zuckbucks&#039; From Elections.\">constitutional amendment proposal<\/a> that would cap the U.S. Supreme Court at nine justices on Wednesday. Not a single House Democrat on the committee supported it.<\/p>\n<p>The moment came during a committee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=eQMYwWF_dt0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">markup<\/a> for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/119th-congress\/house-joint-resolution\/1\/text\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HJR 1<\/a>, which would require SCOTUS to \u201cbe composed of nine justices.\u201d The measure\u2019s passage along party lines (15-8) means it now goes to the full House for consideration.<\/p>\n<div id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1873466471\" class=\"d-flex justify-content-center fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 fdrlst__b89e9-entity-placement\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The primary method used to amend the Constitution requires that any proposed amendment receive at least two-thirds support from both chambers of Congress and three-quarters of the states in order to ratify America\u2019s founding legal document. Keep Nine Coalition Director Roman Buhler said in a statement ahead of Wednesday\u2019s vote that a \u201csuccessful effort by either party to expand the size of the Court would unleash a destructive cycle of revenge Court packing that would undermine the independence of the Supreme Court we depend on to protect every one of our constitutional rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the next few years Americans will make a choice, to preserve or to destroy the independence of our Supreme Court. While <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/04\/07\/unraveling-the-far-left-group-seeking-to-derail-future-republican-scotus-nominees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">largely dormant<\/a> during President Trump\u2019s return to office, the campaign saw new life following the release of the high court\u2019s recent <em>Louisiana v. Callais<\/em> decision nuking states\u2019 ability to partake in race-based redistricting.<\/p>\n<p>House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries is among those to telegraph his support for packing the Supreme Court if voters give his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republicans-warn-of-one-party-rule-if-democrats-win-ga-runoffs\/\" title=\"Republicans warn of \u2018one party rule\u2019 if ... win Ga. runoffs\">party control<\/a> of the lower chamber this fall.
