Yvette Clarke (D-NY) <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/cbc.house.gov\/uploadedfiles\/cbc_letter_regarding_protect_college_sports_act.pdf\">wrote a letter<\/a> to Cruz and Cantwell on Wednesday, urging them to pause the bill\u2019s consideration, writing, \u201cfor generations, Black athletes have <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >helped build college athletics<\/a> into one of the most powerful and profitable industries in American life.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe success, visibility, and cultural influence of major athletic conferences and institutions are inseparable from the talent, labor, leadership, and cultural contributions of Black communities,\u201d Clarke wrote. \u201cThe Congressional Black Caucus believes institutions that profit from Black talent and Black communities have a responsibility to stand with those communities when their fundamental rights are under attack.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She said the CBC would vie for the bill\u2019s suspension as long as the leadership of college athletic institutions \u201cremains silent in the face of ongoing attacks on Black political representation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn the wake of the Supreme Court\u2019s recent decision in <em>Louisiana v. Callais<\/em>, states across the South have moved rapidly to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrats-seek-redistricting-changes-in-key-states-to-regain-house-majority\/\" title=\"Democrats aim to alter redistricting in crucial ... for House majority recovery.\">redraw congressional maps<\/a> in ways designed to dilute Black voting strength, weaken Black representation, and undermine decades of hard-fought civil rights progress secured through the Voting Rights Act,\u201d Clarke continued. \u201cThrough all of this, many of the nation\u2019s most influential athletic institutions and conferences have remained largely silent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several states, including <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/tennessee\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"600\">Tennessee<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/louisiana\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"529\">Louisiana<\/a>, have redistricted their congressional maps after the <em>Callais<\/em> decision to give the Republican side of the delegation more power, eliminating a majority-minority district within their borders in the process. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/sports\/4592988\/nick-saban-warn-ncaa-race-to-bottom-spending\/\">NICK SABAN WARNS THAT CURRENT NCAA LANDSCAPE IS A \u2018RACE TO THE BOTTOM\u2019 IF SPENDING ISN\u2019T REINED IN<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CBC is the latest group to take notable action in opposition to these redistricting moves. They also <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/keeping-score\/5891776-black-lawmakers-block-score\/\">opposed<\/a> the GOP-led SCORE Act, a separate college sports bill, last week.
