Benson argued that Hamawy\u2019s past legal adn international activities could <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/china-may-never-become-a-superpower\/\" title=\"China May Never Become a Superpower\">create political problems<\/a> for Democrats, pointing particularly to Hamawy\u2019s involvement with Omar Abdel-Rahman (\u201cThe Blind Sheikh\u201d)-including claims that Hamawy served as his interpreter, traveled with him, acted as a confidant, and testified for him during Abdel-Rahman\u2019s trial.<\/p>\n<p>The article also notes that Hamawy later volunteered in Bosnia in 1994 with a nonprofit that was shut down for providing logistical support to al Qaeda. Citing additional reporting, Benson suggested that Hamawy\u2019s overseas activities may have further heightened scrutiny and that the Bosnia link may not be coincidental given the earlier relationship.<\/p>\n<p>Former federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy, featured in Benson\u2019s discussion, described the prosecution as involving not onyl the World trade Center plot but also a broader scheme targeting multiple New york landmarks. McCarthy further suggested that overseas jihadist travel could have been motivated-at least partly-by a desire for prestige and credibility within extremist networks. Hamawy, a plastic surgeon, previously volunteered at a hospital in Gaza amid the war between Israel and Hamas, garnering him support from Democrats. He also testified in favor of Omar Abdel-Rahman, \u201cThe Blind Sheikh,\u201d during his trial for the bombing, accompanied him on a trip, and translated documents for him.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Benson pointed to his recent <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/radio.foxnews.com\/2026\/06\/02\/andy-mccarthy-blind-sheikh-hamawy\/\">radio interview<\/a> with former federal prosecutor <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/4515922\/its-not-easy-being-trumps-attorney-general\/\">Andrew McCarthy<\/a>, who prosecuted the original case, where they underscored the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/james-biden-claims-president-was-not-involved-in-family-business-dealings\/\" title=\"James Biden denies President&#039;s involvement in family business dealings\">heightened scrutiny surrounding<\/a> the candidate\u2019s past role. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSo we had Andy McCarthy on my radio show just recently,\u201d Benson said on Fox News\u2019s<em> Fox and Friends <\/em>Tuesday. \u201cAndy was one of the prosecutors who put away the Blind Sheik, this arch-terrorist mastermind of the first World Trade Center bombing with the goal of murdering thousands of New Yorkers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recalling the scope of the investigation, McCarthy said the case against the Blind Sheik encompassed not only the World Trade Center bombing but also a <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >wider terrorist plot targeting<\/a> several New York landmarks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe case that we convicted the Blind Sheik was kind of a two-phase thing. One was the World Trade Center bombing, and the second phase was this New York City landmarks plot where they were planning to do simultaneous bombings of the Lincoln and Holland Tunnel, the FBI\u2019s lower Manhattan headquarters, the U.N.\u2019s complex, an American military facility,\u201d McCarthy said on the <em>Guy Benson Show <\/em>Thursday.<\/p>\n<div style=\"display: inline-block; width: 100%; max-width: 640px; min-height: 180px; max-height: 360px; overflow: hidden;\">\n<div style=\"position: relative; width: 100%; padding-top: 56.25%;\"><iframe src=\"https:\/\/share.grabien.com\/share?id=3555438&#038;userid=11311&#038;usertype=user&#038;loginid=9421&#038;playercolor=%23000000&#038;playersize=auto&#038;code=5286f6e957c1d672478a7268cdaf9fb9\" style=\"position: absolute; top: 0px; left: 0px; width: 100%; height: 100%; border: 0px;\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Emphasizing the depth of Hamawy\u2019s ties to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/miss-palestines-connection-to-notorious-hamas-leader-exposed-ahead-of-beauty-pageant-report\/\" title=\"Miss Palestine&#039;s Connection to Notorious Hamas Leader Exposed Ahead of Beauty Pageant: Report\">convicted terrorist leader<\/a>, Benson said, \u201cThe man you just mentioned, running for Congress in <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/new-jersey\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"1065\">New Jersey<\/a>, was his interpreter, traveled around with him, was a confidant, and was a defense witness at that trial.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Benson further cited <em>Jewish Insider<\/em> reporting that drew attention to additional scrutiny of Hamawy\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/jewishinsider.com\/2026\/06\/hamawy-victory-primary-new-jersey-pro-israel-democrats\/\">later overseas activities<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBeyond that, Bryan [Kilmeade], <em>Jewish Insider<\/em> has reported that same man subsequently went to Bosnia to volunteer for an organization that was later exposed as an al Qaeda front and shut down,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Benson also suggested that, given Hamawy\u2019s relationship with the Blind Sheikh, the connection between Bosnia and al Qaeda couldn\u2019t be a coincidence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Expanding on the significance of the Bosnia connection, McCarthy described how extremist leaders sought to replicate the recruitment model that had emerged during the Soviet-Afghan conflict. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf you were a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-super-bowl-moment-of-silence-for-covid-19-victims-draws-smattering-of-boos\/\" title=\"Biden\u2019s Super Bowl Moment Of Silence For COVID-19 Victims Draws Smattering Of Boos\">young guy<\/a> like Hamawy was back then, the most prominent people in jihadist circles in the United States at that time and in the New York area were the Muslims who had gone to Afghanistan to fight the Soviets,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">McCarthy suggested that Hamawy\u2019s overseas activities may have been motivated, at least in part, by a desire to gain status and credibility within certain political and ideological circles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/4584640\/progressive-democrat-adam-hamawy-scrutiny-terrorist-link\/\"><strong>PROGRESSIVE DEMOCRATIC HOUSE FRONT-RUNNER ADAM HAMAWY FACES SCRUTINY OVER PAST TERRORIST ASSOCIATION<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSo, if you were a person who wanted to have prestige in these circles.
