Senators including Bill Cassidy, Bernie Sanders, Tommy Tuberville, and tammy baldwin attended.<\/p>\n<p>Cassidy argued that healthcare professionals and their organizations benefit from recommending and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nevada-bill-proposes-protections-for-doctors-performing-gender-transition-surgeries-on-minors\/\" title=\"Nevada Bill Proposes Protections For ... He also presented testimony from Chloe Cole,who described detransitioning after surgeries as a teenager and criticized what she said were misleading claims to her parents about mental health and the effects of not transitioning.<\/p>\n<p>Sanders said the hearing was a misuse of committee time, arguing it affects a very small portion of teens and that resources would be better spent on issues like child poverty and hunger. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/healthcare\/\">healthcare<\/a> professionals and their organizations profit from recommending and executing gender transition surgeries.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe should be treating each child with the specialized care they need, not encouraging a 9-year-old boy to become a girl,\u201d Cassidy said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also emphasized that the basic role of a parent is to protect children from harm and to \u201cput <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/politics\/\">politics<\/a> aside.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He called a witness, 21-year-old Chloe Cole. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/premium\/4497779\/detransitioner-lawsuit-turning-point-gender-ideology\/\">Cole detransitioned<\/a> after having a double mastectomy at age 15.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She blasted medical professionals for taking away her breasts at a young age and said her parents were misinformed. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI hadn\u2019t even had my first kiss or practiced driving before,\u201d Cole said. \u201cHow could they take away part of my womanhood before I was even old enough to call myself one?<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI have no breasts, because they were replaced with scars.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/mental-health\/\">mental health<\/a> would rapidly deteriorate if she didn\u2019t transition, and signs that she had \u201cshort hair\u201d meant she wanted to be a boy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c\u2019Transition your daughter, or bury her.\u2019 That\u2019s the lie my parents were told,\u201d Cole said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She said she never found the peace and acceptance that medical professionals promised her and her parents. She now has medical complications and will not be able to breastfeed, even if she is able to have children.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She said her gender was treated as a disease that could only be fixed through surgery and argued that some doctors prey on children.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAny member of <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/congress\/\">Congress<\/a> who defends this should have to look parents in the eye and explain why their child\u2019s body is now a commodity that they can sell to the gender industry,\u201d Cole said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She continues to be an active voice in the community, working to stop these procedures on children.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI was not a sick boy trapped in a girl\u2019s body.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/supreme-court\/4583383\/male-athlete-supreme-court-transgender-sports-case-state-championships\/\"><strong>MALE ATHLETE IN SUPREME COURT TRANSGENDER SPORTS CASE PLACED HIGH IN GIRLS\u2019 STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS: WEST VIRGINIA AG<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sanders, however, said the hearing was a waste of time. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis hearing is disappointing,\u201d Sanders said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are using precious committee time dealing with an issue that impacts at most, less than one hundredth of 1% of teenagers throughout America, and zero kids under the age of 12.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said a hearing that could take several hours only affects such a small number of people. He said their time could be put toward other topics, such as child <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/poverty\/\">poverty<\/a> and hunger, which he said are rampant in the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/united-states\/\">United States.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He argued gender-affirming care should be between doctors, patients, and parents, not politics.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sanders called on witness Shannon Minter, the legal director for the National Center for LGBTQ Rights.
