He noted that even in sanctuary jurisdictions, cooperation with local and state officials has already been strong during past games.<\/p>\n<p>Mullin also addressed tensions over immigration enforcement, pointing to limits under California law that restrict state and local agencies-especially regarding ICE detainer requests-and referencing concerns about his earlier statements involving potential CBP officer redeployments tied to New Jersey\u2019s cooperation.<\/p>\n<p>On the World Cup itself,he said he looks forward to the U.S. being highlighted internationally, but stressed that the security demands are substantial. His biggest concern is drone threats; he said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/american-defense-priorities-following-ukraine-war\/\" title=\"American Defense Priorities After Ukraine War\">counter-drone capabilities<\/a> are still behind the level of offensive drone efforts, though hosting cities have counter-drone equipment. The sanctuary city will host one of the four quarterfinal games on July 10.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/california\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"60\">California<\/a> law, state and <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >local law enforcement agencies<\/a> are barred from cooperating with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-to-nominate-texas-sheriff-to-lead-ice\/\" title=\"Biden to Nominate Texas Sheriff to Lead ICE\">federal immigration enforcement<\/a>, especially when it comes to detainer requests filed by <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/ice\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/ice\/\">Immigration and Customs Enforcement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tensions are high between federal authorities and sanctuary jurisdictions as anti-ICE protests plague Delaney Hall, a private-run detention center in Newark, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/new-jersey\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"1065\">New Jersey<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mullin recently said he would pull <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/customs-and-border-protection\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"1764\">Customs and Border Protection<\/a> officers from Newark Liberty International Airport and dispatch them to Delaney Hall if New Jersey didn\u2019t cooperate. Democratic lawmakers have expressed concern that he may do the same to other airports in blue cities or states.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regarding the World Cup, the secretary indicated he is \u201clooking forward\u201d to highlighting the United States at the international soccer tournament but expressed concerns about the scale of the security required for the high-profile competition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe have 78 Super Bowls in 38 days,\u201d he said. It lasts from June 11 to July 19.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/immigration\/4591793\/mullin-politicized-courts-dhs-rulings\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/immigration\/4591793\/mullin-politicized-courts-dhs-rulings\/\">MULLIN CITES \u2018POLITICIZED\u2019 COURTS IN REFUSAL TO COMMIT TO DHS OBEYING RULINGS<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Later in the hearing, Mullin said drone threats are his \u201cbiggest concern\u201d for the World Cup.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe have spent a tremendous amount of ability and money to be able to be very offensive with drones, but on the counter-drone measures, everybody\u2019s a little behind,\u201d he said, adding that all 11 U.S. cities that are hosting World Cup matches \u201cdo have counter-drone equipment at the facilities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mullins revealed that there have been drone incursions at other major sporting events, including the Miami F1 Grand Prix on May 3 and at the Masters tournament in Augusta, Georgia, in April.
