Nowak was handcuffed and read his rights, at which point he lost consciousness. The footage showed his hand was deathly pale from blood loss.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The footage also showed Digwa\u2019s family taking part in the cover-up of Nowak\u2019s stabbing. After hearing his pleas, one of Digwa\u2019s brothers told officers he hadn\u2019t actually been stabbed, to which one officer responded, \u201cI know, but we have to check.\u201d The brother who called the police made up a story that Nowak had attacked the murderer and shouted racial abuse. He also claimed no weapons were involved.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following an explosion in public interest, Digwa was sentenced to life imprisonment on Monday, though he was given the possibility of parole after 21 years, meaning he will be eligible at age 43.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hampshire Deputy Chief Constable Robert France defended the officers\u2019 conduct on the scene, saying that officers began performing CPR three minutes after coming into contact with Nowak.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis is a complete tragedy, and I am sorry that they couldn\u2019t save Henry that night, and I\u2019m sorry that Henry was handcuffed and arrested as he lost consciousness,\u201d France said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe pathologist who spoke in court was clear there was nothing officers could have done that day to save Henry,\u201d France added. \u201cHis wound was deep and internal, the bleeding extensive but internal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking on Monday in front of the courthouse where Digwa was sentenced, Nowak\u2019s father pointed out the discrepancy between how his son and the murderer were treated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHenry should not have died on the streets of Southampton in police custody,\u201d he said. \u201cThe way he was treated was inhumane and degrading. His murderer, however, was afforded decency. He was believed. He was not handcuffed when arrested. He was not handcuffed when transported to the police station.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAs far as we understand, he was never handcuffed at all,\u201d the father continued. \u201cAnd, as Vickrum Digwa himself told the court, while under arrest for Henry\u2019s murder, police even took him to the kitchen so he could choose his food. The contrast is unbearable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Digwa\u2019s brother, father, and mother were all implicated in the murder, but only his mother was directly charged. She was convicted on Thursday of assisting an offender after she was caught hiding the murder weapon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a statement, Digwa\u2019s family said they were \u201cdeeply sorry for the pain and suffering the Nowak family has had to endure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe would give anything to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cher-mocked-for-white-savior-tweet-about-george-floyd\/\" title=\"Cher Mocked For \u2018White Savior\u2019 Tweet About George Floyd\">turn back time<\/a> so the path of both Henry and Vickrum never crossed that night,\u201d the statement reads. \u201cWe cannot change what has happened, we just hope that no further pain is caused in its name.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Much of the statement focused on the backlash the murder had caused against the Sikh community, but the family apologized \u201cto the Sikh community for our son\u2019s actions which have unfairly brought the community into disrepute\u201d and asked that the \u201ctragedy is not used to inflame division or hostility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Concerns of backlash against Sikhs were a central theme of many Labour Party and left-wing responses to the murder, further inflaming outrage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi focused his ire on the center-right Restore and Reform parties, saying they have \u201cdecided to scapegoat and throw under the bus an entire community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The judge who sentenced Digwa also focused on backlash against Sikhs, telling Digwa, \u201cYour actions have stirred up racial tension in Southampton and across the country, which have made many Sikhs worried about their safety.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The case drew the attention of Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who described the case as \u201cawful\u201d and \u201cshocking.\u201d The crux of his statement, however, was his appeal, \u201cAnd we must end the cycle of tragedy by tackling the horror of knife crime,\u201d which wasn\u2019t received well.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The UK Reform Party, Nigel Farage\u2019s rapidly growing party, was much more forceful in its response. Farage posted a video statement on X, sending his condolences to Nowak\u2019s family and calling for wider change.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe need a change in culture, enough of anti-white prejudice,\u201d he said, \u201ca promotion of the idea that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hate-crime-hoax-outrageously-racist-graffiti-sparked-days-of-protests-a-black-student-wrote-them\/\" title=\"Hate Crime Hoax: Outrageously Racist Graffiti Sparked Days Of Protests.
