The same Democrats who helped or smiled on President Joe Biden\u2019s weaponized Justice Department are attempting to dismantle a fund that would pay restitution to Americans crushed under the weight of an abusive government. <\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>While the restitution pool does raise some transparency concerns, its political critics like to contend the Biden administration did not use the DOJ and outside lawfare bloodsuckers to drive witch hunts against President Donald Trump, his allies, and other Democratic Party political enemies. <\/p>\n<p>Those critics include the Senate Majority Leader John Thune and his team who courageously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/senate-reconciliation-bill-white-house-ballroom-doj-anti-weaponization-fund\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fled D.C.<\/a> for their nine-day Memorial Day Weekend getaway without dealing with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/senate-reconciliation-bill-white-house-ballroom-doj-anti-weaponization-fund\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reconciliation bill <\/a>to fund Immigration &#038; Customs Enforcement and the U.S. Border Patrol. They\u2019re so caught up in their temper tantrum over the anti-weaponization fund that they\u2019re willing to hold up the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanimmigrationcouncil.org\/blog\/senate-pushes-70-billion-funding-ice-cbp-accountability-measures\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$70 billion<\/a> funding package to pay for border security and ICE efforts. <\/p>\n<p>Democrats, set on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/opinion\/david-marcus-5-blatant-lies-democrats-spreading-delaney-hall-ice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">abolishing ICE<\/a> and reopening the border like in the good old invasion days of the Biden presidency, are loving every minute of the Republican rancor. So, too, are their messengers in the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >corrupt corporate media \u2014 breathlessly reporting<\/a> every inch of the impasse between Senate RINOs and Trump. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cEnough Republican senators to block progress on the immigration bill, given the united Democratic opposition, said there were unanswered questions that could keep the bill from moving forward without a clear resolution,\u201d Politico <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2026\/06\/01\/senate-republicans-weaponization-fund-00946184\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> Monday evening. <\/p>\n<h2>Hypocrites <\/h2>\n<p>The milquetoast majority, like their Democrat friends, want the justice fund killed in its cradle or they won\u2019t play ball on funding critical Department of Homeland Security operations. Some aren\u2019t satisfied by the DOJ\u2019s statement that it \u201cwill abide\u201d by U.S. District Court <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Leonie_Brinkema\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Judge Leonie Brinkema\u2019s<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.vaed.596617\/gov.uscourts.vaed.596617.31.0_1.pdf\">order<\/a> last week enjoining the Trump administration from \u201cirreversibly\u201d disbursing payouts from the fund. <\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The Department of Justice disagrees strongly with the decision on the Anti-Weaponization Fund put forth by the United States District Court Judge in the Eastern District of Virginia, wherein the Court stated that, under no circumstances, may the Department of Justice proceed with\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 U.S. Department of Justice (@TheJusticeDept) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TheJusticeDept\/status\/2061531380735951193?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 1, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span> <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>In its statement, the department said it strongly disagrees with the order from Brinkema, who was tapped to serve on the Eastern District of Virginia bench in the early days of President Bill Clinton\u2019s first term. The Justice Department notes that the fund \u201cwas open to anybody who was so weaponized, targeted, or persecuted\u201d \u2014 no matter their political affiliation or philosophy.<\/p>\n<p>Those assurances weren\u2019t good enough for many Senate Republicans who have done little to move Trump\u2019s domestic agenda. They\u2019re itchy in particular about renumeration going to any of the Jan. 6 rioters and protesters, many of whom have been crushed under the wheels of the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/03\/08\/an-egregious-denial-of-due-process-for-jan-6-protesters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Biden DOJ\u2019s weaponization machine<\/a> in the name of Democratic Party\u2019s \u201cinsurrection\u201d big lie. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe way the statement is worded, I think it\u2019s clear that they\u2019re not proceeding with the fund, but obviously whether that\u2019s sufficient to satisfy a number of our members is something we\u2019re still sorting through,\u201d Thune, R-S.D., <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2026\/jun\/1\/justice-department-drop-anti-weaponization-fund-compliance-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told<\/a> reporters.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Trump gave the neocon RINOs the Iran war they\u2019d been begging for, and they responded by stabbing him in the back on the anti-weaponizing fund and refusing to pass the SAVE America Act. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/wcOeKOycu7\">https:\/\/t.co\/wcOeKOycu7<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Sean Davis (@seanmdav) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/seanmdav\/status\/2061535686709199350?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 1, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span> <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The Republican ransom setters are demanding that the president effectively swear an oath that the anti-weaponization fund is dead, and to promise he\u2019ll never, never, ever bring it up again. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf it means it\u2019s completely pulled, then that would satisfy me, but I haven\u2019t heard anybody say that that is actually what is happening,\u201d Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, a perennial contender for most useless Senate Republican, told Politico. She also hinted, according to the left-leaning publication, that she could vote against the immigration enforcement bill no matter how the victim funding debate goes down. <\/p>\n<p>Murkowski, it has long been said, can\u2019t be satisfied. She\u2019s always been frigid to the MAGA movement.\u00a0She\u2019s a hypocrite. So is Thune and all the other Republicans gnashing their teeth over the ant-weaponization fund. <\/p>\n<p>As Kyle Brosnan, general counsel for the <a href=\"https:\/\/oversightproject.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Oversight Project<\/a>, righty points out, this is the same Senate majority that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/congress\/gop-senators-distance-provision-allowing-sue-phone-record-searches-rcna243902\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tucked a provision<\/a> into last year\u2019s government funding bill that allowed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.judiciary.senate.gov\/press\/rep\/releases\/biden-fbi-spied-on-eight-republican-senators-as-part-of-arctic-frost-investigation-grassley-oversight-reveals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">senators spied on<\/a> in the weaponized <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/04\/22\/new-records-prove-biden-fbi-spying-on-congress-wasnt-an-isolated-incident\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Arctic Frost<\/a> probe to sue for millions of dollars. As Brosnan notes, only after public outrage did they repeal the provision. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey voted to give themselves a multi-million windfall, and only when they got caught with their hand in the cookie jar and there was rightful indignation from the public, did they relent,\u201d the attorney told The Federalist Monday in a phone interview. <\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<div lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>Translation:  &#8220;If we can&#8217;t get paid for being victims of weaponization, no one can.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>This is the same Senate that who snuck a provision into law that gave senators and only senators the right to sue over Arctic Frost weaponization. <\/p>\n<p>They only repealed it after public outrage. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/4YgBnnCvNb\">https:\/\/t.co\/4YgBnnCvNb<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u2014 Kyle Brosnan (@KylePBrosnan) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/KylePBrosnan\/status\/2057542989115695512?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 21, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span> <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<h2>\u2018For Nearly Six Years\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>There are plenty of victims of political weaponization, like <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/07\/14\/the-uniparty-swamp-tried-to-ruin-douglass-mackeys-life-over-a-meme-and-lost\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Douglass Mackey<\/a>, who was prosecuted by the Biden DOJ for exercising his free speech rights. He was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-edny\/pr\/social-media-influencer-douglass-mackey-sentenced-after-conviction-election\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sentenced<\/a> to seven months in prison on trumped-up charges of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-edny\/pr\/social-media-influencer-douglass-mackey-sentenced-after-conviction-election\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">conspiracy to interfere<\/a> with voters\u2019 potential right to vote\u201d in the 2016 presidential election. What did Mackey do? He posted <a href=\"https:\/\/law.justia.com\/cases\/federal\/appellate-courts\/ca2\/23-7577\/23-7577-2025-07-09.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">satirical memes<\/a> encouraging Hillary Clinton supporters to vote via text message.<\/p>\n<p>An appellate court last July <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jonesday.com\/en\/practices\/experience\/2025\/07\/douglass-mackey-secures-unanimous-appellate-win-overturning-his-conviction-in-highprofile-criminal-case\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">unanimously tossed<\/a> his conviction. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are many other victims of weaponization. Look at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/119\/meeting\/house\/118565\/documents\/HHRG-119-JU00-20250903-SD034-U34.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">covid censorship industrial complex<\/a>,\u201d Brosnan said. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/05\/22\/prosecutor-whose-office-helped-jack-smith-accuse-trump-of-stealing-govt-records-indicted-for-stealing-govt-records\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Special Counsel Jack Smith<\/a> and the Arctic Frost cabal targeted more than 400 Republicans, according to nearly 200 subpoenas <a href=\"https:\/\/foxbaltimore.com\/news\/nation-world\/arctic-frost-over-160-republicans-may-have-been-investigated-by-biden-fbi-jack-smith-chuck-grassley-jim-jordan-documents-house-judiciary-committee-politics-news-conference\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">released<\/a> last October by Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa. Now Grassley is demanding Trump \u201csay very explicitly that there\u2019s not going to be a weaponization fund,\u201d according to Politico. <\/p>\n<p>Jeff Clark, the Oversight Project\u2019s vice president of litigation, is himself a victim of weaponization. As The Federalist\u2019s Jordan Boyd <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/05\/14\/trump-doj-challenges-leftist-barfare-with-lawsuit-targeting-jeff-clarks-dc-persecutors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> last month, the DOJ sued the Washington D.C. Bar disciplinary machine for its raging \u201cbarfare,\u201d leftist lawyers who have spent years \u201ctrying to ruin the lives and careers of their political enemies,\u201d including Clark, a Trump-era DOJ official. <\/p>\n<p>Caught up in the leftist lawfare witch hunt following the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/118\/meeting\/house\/116804\/witnesses\/HHRG-118-HA00-Wstate-HemingwayM-20240207-U1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rigged<\/a> 2020 election, Clark <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/05\/14\/trump-doj-challenges-leftist-barfare-with-lawsuit-targeting-jeff-clarks-dc-persecutors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">faced<\/a> a wide-ranging Georgia election indictment and the FBI <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=oQaPLkKgYZY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">raided his<\/a> home, all with the attorney having committed no crime. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor nearly six years, I\u2019ve been defending myself against truly vapid and silly charges by the DC Office of Disciplinary Counsel,\u201d Clark said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/itsyourgov.org\/oversight-project-applauds-creation-of-dedicated-fund-for-victims-of-weaponization\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">statement<\/a>. \u201cThey claim I tried to lie when in reality all I was doing was proposing a different course of action than two of my fellow lawyers in leadership at DOJ. Lawyers disagree with each other all the time. The DC Bar charges aimed at me were at all times an effort at weaponized politics. Nothing more.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>\u2018Accountability for Abusive Government Actors?\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>The Oversight Project in December sent a <a href=\"https:\/\/static.itsyourgov.org\/12.17.25-OP_Letter_to_DOJ-Restitution.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">letter<\/a> to the DOJ and Trump proposing the legal framework for establishing the anti-weaponization fund. Despite assertions to the contrary, the indemnity legally draws from the congress\u2019 creation 70 years ago of a Judgment Fund and subsequent authority granted to the Justice Department to pay claims. <\/p>\n<p>Now Senate Republicans are working overtime to help Democrats block restitution for those buried under the weight of politically-driven indictments and prosecutions. <\/p>\n<p>Thune\u2019s office did not return The Federalist\u2019s request for comment asking if the majority leader \u201cwants to see justice for conservative victims of Biden\u2019s weaponized Department of Justice and accountability for abusive government actors?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDoes he not agree that there are plenty of both?\u201d The Federalist inquired of Thune\u2019s spokeswoman. <\/p>\n<p>More so, does the Republican leader not think that the voters who delivered a majority for Republicans in the Senate voted for accountability for the abusive agents who weaponized the government against their political enemies? <\/p>\n<p>If Thune and other Senate Republicans don\u2019t believe that, should they continue to serve in their plumb positions where they\u2019ve done more for far-left Democrats than the conservatives who voted for them?<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>      Matt Kittle is a senior elections correspondent for The Federalist.
