During her interview, she also discussed threats she faced in prison and referenced time in solitary confinement.<\/p>\n<p>Her release drew widespread backlash.Colorado Democratic officials criticized Polis for, in their view, damaging the party\u2019s credibility and complying with Trump.Sen. She previously wrote a letter to Trump requesting a presidential pardon, but Peters could not be granted a presidential pardon because she was convicted on state charges.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peters, 70, said she plans to spend the next few weeks \u201cregaining\u201d her health. While in prison, Peters\u2019s attorney had requested she be transferred to \u201ca safe unit\u201d after she had been threatened on multiple occasions. During her interview on Monday, she referred to spending time in solitary confinement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peters was serving time after being convicted on multiple felony accounts for helping an unauthorized person access county election equipment and <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >allowing sensitive voting system data<\/a> to be copied and distributed in an effort to get the results of the 2020 election overturned.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Polis\u2019s decision to grant Peters clemency faced significant backlash, with his state colleagues censuring him for what they called harming the Colorado Democratic Party\u2019s \u201cinstitutional credibility\u201d and yielding to Trump.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sen. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/michael-bennet\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"1217\">Michael Bennet<\/a> (D-CO), who is running to replace term-limited Polis, shared the video of Peters\u2019s interview on Monday and raised concerns about her possibly cashing in on Trump\u2019s \u201canti-weaponization\u201d fund, which seeks to compensate people who claim they were wrongly targeted by the Justice Department.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf anyone had doubts about whether Tina Peters learned anything from her imprisonment, she answered that question within hours of her release,\u201d Bennet said. \u201cShe cannot get a cent from Trump\u2019s slush fund.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bennet added that he would \u201ctax any payouts 100%\u201d if he is elected in November.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold was also frustrated after Peters\u2019s release, calling Polis\u2019s grant of clemency \u201can affront to our democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt sends a dangerous message about accountability for those who would attack elections,\u201d Griswold said. \u201cPeters\u2019 release also will embolden the election denial movement; since the grant of clemency, she has continued to spread election falsehoods and conspiracies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"h-tina-peters-released-from-prison-after-jared-polis-commuted-her-sentence\"><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/4589033\/tina-peters-release-prison-colorado-polis-commuted-sentence\/\"><strong>TINA PETERS RELEASED FROM PRISON AFTER JARED POLIS COMMUTED HER SENTENCE<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Polis has defended his decision to free Peters, emphasizing that he does not believe she is innocent or agree with her claims about elections.
