Below the photo, the complaint immediately alleges, \u201cNot so.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Uthmeier alleges Altman and OpenAI misrepresented what their systems were capable of, leading to a \u201clitany of harms.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBecause of Defendants\u2019 misrepresentations about ChatGPT and their careless introduction of ChatGPT to Florida and the world, mass shooters have been aided and abetted in deadly rampages, vulnerable people have been encouraged into suicide, professionals have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/does-chinas-xi-jinping-suffer-from-ptsd\/\" title=\"Does China\u2019s Xi Jinping Suffer from PTSD?\">suffered public humiliation<\/a>, users have lost critical thinking skills, and minors have become addicted to a tool that feigns human compassion to collect their data with no parental oversight,\u201d the filing said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The lawsuit accuses OpenAI of four counts of deceptive and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-releases-list-of-president-trumps-accomplishments-and-it-is-historic\/\" title=\"White House Releases List of President Trump\u2019s Accomplishments \u2013  And It Is Historic!\">unfair trade practices<\/a>, two counts of negligence, two counts of violating product liability laws, and one count each of fraudulent misrepresentation and causing a public nuisance. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cChatGPT was designed by the Defendants to keep users hooked into conversations by any means, regardless of the truth, because it leads to more use of the chatbot, more training data for its improvement, and more market value for OpenAI,\u201d the filing said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The lawsuit also alleges that OpenAI\u2019s systems exhibit a \u201cgreat danger of addition, cognitive decline, suicide, violence, and related harms to users.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Uthmeier specifically points to the mass shooting at Florida State University and the killing of two students at the University of South Florida as instances where ChatGPT aided in acts of violence. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to its website, OpenAI <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/openai.com\/index\/mental-health-litigation-approach\/\">continually reviews and updates<\/a> its user guidelines and safeguards in order to adequately respond to mental health crises users experience, particularly among teenagers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"h-florida-attorney-general-announces-criminal-investigation-into-openai-over-fsu-shooter\"><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/crime\/4537916\/florida-ag-criminal-investigation-openai-fsu-shooter\/\"><strong>FLORIDA ATTORNEY GENERAL ANNOUNCES CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION INTO OPENAI OVER FSU SHOOTER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe have safeguards in place to help people, especially teens, when conversations turn sensitive,\u201d the company wrote. \u201cWe continue improving ChatGPT\u2019s training to recognize and respond to signs of mental or emotional distress, <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >de-escalate conversations<\/a>, and guide people toward real-world support.
