The move came after the president asked for her release, and Peters\u2019s attorneys said she was experiencing<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/crime\/3912375\/tina-peters-requests-trump-pardon-after-reported-prison-attacks\/\"> serious safety and health issues<\/a> in prison. The commutation sparked outrage from many Democrats, including state colleagues, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/4578680\/colorado-democrats-censure-jared-polis-tina-peters-commutation\/\">who censured him<\/a> over concerns the commutation \u201cmaterially harmed the Colorado Democratic Party\u2019s institutional credibility and efforts to defend democratic institutions and election integrity.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cReducing her sentence now, under pressure from Donald Trump, is not justice,\u201d the Colorado Democratic Party said last month. \u201cIt sends a message to future bad actors that election tampering has consequences, unless you\u2019re friends with the president. That\u2019s a dangerous and disappointing precedent to set.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Polis says he believes Peters committed a crime after she was convicted of four felonies and three misdemeanor charges related to a breach of voting systems in the county.
