If they try to sneak behind appropriations, we will fight them there too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The controversy over the fund sparked in late May, when Trump reached a settlement with the IRS to resolve his lawsuit against the agency. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In exchange for Trump agreeing to drop the lawsuit, the IRS agreed to create the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/4574584\/todd-blanche-doj-anti-weaponization-fund-beyond-biden-harms\/\">anti-weaponization fund<\/a>. A five-person committee, largely appointed by acting Attorney General <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/todd-blanche\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"20883\">Todd Blanche<\/a>, is in charge of deciding which complainants receive funds from the fund. The $1.776 billion in the fund will come from \u201cthe judgment fund, which is a perpetual appropriation allowing DOJ to settle and pay cases,\u201d according to prosecutors. They\u2019ve been, in some cases, imprisoned wrongly. They paid legal fees that they didn\u2019t have. They\u2019ve gone bankrupt. Their lives have been destroyed. And they turned out to be right.
