Federal employment data cited there indicate that roughly one-fifth of the lawyers employed at the end of December 2024 had departed by March 2026. <\/p>\n<p>Trump argued on Truth Social that those leaving were \u201cdeep state\u201d figures and said he wanted people who would help \u201cmake America great again,\u201d adding that many had been fired. The article attributes the departures to a combination of staffing cuts and resignations from employees who objected to Trump\u2019s policies, along with normal turnover. It also notes that some of the former federal lawyers reportedly moved to <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >democratic state attorney general offices<\/a> and nonprofits. <\/p>\n<p>By agency, the Department of Education reportedly has fewer than half as many lawyers as it did at the end of 2024, while the Department of Homeland Security is portrayed as the only agency that gained lawyers. The government-wide personnel changes are linked to the Department of government Efficiency (DOGE), led by elon Musk, which focused largely on technology modernization and exposing waste, fraud, and exodus of legal talent\u201d as \u201ca bad thing.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe people that are leaving are Radical Left Deep State Lunatics, signed an <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/01\/establishing-and-implementing-the-presidents-department-of-government-efficiency\/\">executive order <\/a>creating the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/department-of-government-efficiency\/\">Department of Government Efficiency<\/a>, an initiative led by <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/elon-musk\/\">Elon Musk<\/a> that sought to \u201cmodernize federal technology and software\u201d and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3236779\/musk-ramaswamy-reveal-top-four-things-know-about-doge\/\">broadly rein<\/a> in class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The effort was originally conceived as a legal reform initiative to be co-led by <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/vivek-ramaswamy\/\">Vivek Ramaswamy<\/a>, who <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3294404\/vivek-ramaswamy-will-leave-doge-considers-run-ohio-governor\/\">left the department<\/a> to run for governor of Ohio that January. In a co-authored <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em> <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/opinion\/musk-and-ramaswamy-the-doge-plan-to-reform-government-supreme-court-guidance-end-executive-power-grab-fa51c020?mod=opinion_lead_pos5\">opinion piece<\/a> published in November 2024, Musk and Ramaswamy wrote that \u201cthe entrenched and ever<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/musk-ramaswamy-signal-planned-parenthood-federal-funding-is-on-the-chopping-block\/\" title=\"..., Ramaswamy Signal Planned Parenthood Federal Funding Is on the Chopping Block\">-growing bureaucracy represents<\/a> an existential threat to our republic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DOGE, under Musk\u2019s leadership, ultimately focused more on modernizing government technology and exposing waste, fraud, and abuse than on reducing the federal headcount, but the administration did fire <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3322422\/thousands-federal-employees-lose-jobs-doge-shrink-workforce\/\">thousands of government employees<\/a> last February as part of the broader initiative to combat bureaucracy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The analysis says that staffing reductions and \u201cthe resignations of some staff members who objected to Mr. Trump\u2019s policies\u201d paired with typical turnover to cause such a large volume of departures.
