She made the guilty plea in federal court in Los Angeles and resigned immediately after the Department of Justice announced the charges in May.<\/p>\n<p>The DOJ says her conduct occurred from late 2020 to 2022. During that period, she and an associate, Yaoning \u201cMike\u201d Sun, promoted Chinese officials\u2019 messaging on the U.S.-facing News Center website; Sun later pleaded guilty and received a four<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/tiger-king-makes-post-addressing-trump-in-midst-of-pardons\/\" title=\"Tiger King Makes Post Addressing Trump in Midst of Pardons\">-year prison sentance<\/a>. One cited example involves a wechat transfer of an article by China\u2019s Los Angeles consul general that rejected allegations of genocide and forced labor in Xinjiang,which Wang posted on her own site.<\/p>\n<p>Wang, who switched to the Democratic Party in 2022, is scheduled to be sentenced on October 6 and faces up to 10 years in federal prison. Shortly thereafter, she assumed office.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2022, Wang switched to the Democratic Party as she entered public office. Before that year, she was a registered Republican.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wang and Yaoning \u201cMike\u201d Sun worked on behalf of Chinese officials to promote Beijing\u2019s propaganda on the U.S. News Center website. The two were engaged at the time, but they split in spring 2024. Sun was handed a four-year prison sentence in February after he pleaded guilty in October to acting as an illegal foreign agent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In June 2021, a Chinese official sent a <em>Los Angeles Times<\/em> article written by the consul general of the People\u2019s Republic of China in Los Angeles to Wang through the encrypted messaging app WeChat. She then posted it on her website. The piece dismissed allegations of genocide and forced labor in China\u2019s Xinjiang province, where Uyghur Muslims are imprisoned.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere has never been genocide in Xinjiang or forced labor in the region\u2019s cotton fields or any other sector,\u201d the article stated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/4563916\/arcadia-california-mayor-chinese-agent\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/4563916\/arcadia-california-mayor-chinese-agent\/\">CALIFORNIA MAYOR EILEEN WANG CHARGED WITH ACTING AS CHINESE AGENT<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wang is set to be sentenced on Oct. 6.
