Mikie Sherrill said the findings would be shared later and that the state is pursuing further clarity and accountability regarding detainees\u2019 conditions.<\/p>\n<p>The inspection comes amid escalating tension at the facility: ICE personnel previously blocked Sherrill and other New Jersey Democrats, Sherrill criticized ICE for limiting access, and outside Delaney Hall, anti-ICE protesters have clashed with federal officers. Inside, detainees are alleged to be staging a hunger and labor strike over claims of inhumane conditions; DHS disputes both the strike and any \u201csubprime\u201d conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Andy Kim said his office received reports of pepper spray and physical force against detainees, which he urged ICE and GEO Group to stop. Earlier in the week, Kim reported being pepper-sprayed by ICE during the protest.<\/p>\n<p>Other federal lawmakers who visited Delaney Hall this week include several House members, and Rep. LaMonica McIver faces charges related to an alleged altercation outside the facility. Additionally, Sen. The governor criticized ICE for denying them entry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAs I\u2019ve said repeatedly, refusing to <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >provide full access raises<\/a> serious questions about what ICE is trying to hide from public view,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNew Jersey believes in the rule of law, will uphold the Constitution, and Delaney Hall should be closed down,\u201d she said. \u201cI am calling for ICE to immediately de-escalate the situation as I continue working to keep New Jersey residents safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The situation at Delaney Hall is growing increasingly tense as anti-ICE protesters clash with federal officers outside the facility while detainees take part in a hunger and labor strike over the alleged inhumane conditions inside the prison.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DHS disputes the existence of the strike and maintains there are no \u201csubprime\u201d conditions. Democratic politicians insist otherwise.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Thursday, Sen. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/andy-kim\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"11056\">Andy Kim<\/a> (D-NJ) said his office has received calls from his constituents about the \u201cuse of pepper spray and physical force against detainees inside Delaney Hall.\u201d He says the reported law enforcement actions, if true, must stop.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cICE and GEO Group have a responsibility to keep detainees safe,\u201d he <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SenatorAndyKim\/status\/2060082419873517861\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SenatorAndyKim\/status\/2060082419873517861\">said<\/a> of the immigration agency and the security company that owns and operates Delaney Hall. \u201cThey\u2019ve instead refused to let State health officials conduct full inspections and have repeatedly stood in the way of Congressional oversight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier this week, Kim was pepper-sprayed by ICE during his appearance at the protest.
