Nichols said the plaintiffs did not show they where likely to succeed in establishing Article III standing, nor did they demonstrate they were facing \u201cimminent and irreparable harm\u201d that would justify stopping the order through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/judge-who-annually-donates-to-planned-parenthood-rules-in-favor-of-abortion-advocates-in-michigan\/\" title=\"Judge Who Annually Donates To Planned Parenthood Rules In Favor Of Abortion Advocates In Michigan\">preliminary injunctive relief<\/a>. He noted the order does not require the plaintiffs to take action,and no agencies have yet implemented it in a way that could cause present harm.  <\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit-filed by groups including the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, LULAC, and the NAACP-alleged impacts on voting rights, electoral prospects, and efforts related to voter registration and access to mail voting. The request was rejected on the grounds that the request did not show \u201cthat preliminary injunctive relief is warranted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">U.S. District Judge Carl J. It was in response to Trump\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2026\/03\/ensuring-citizenship-verification-and-integrity-in-federal-elections\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">directive<\/a> issued on March 31, 2026, specifying that the \u201cright to vote in federal elections is reserved exclusively for citizens of the United States.\u201d Any violator of this would be held accountable through the imposition of \u201ccriminal penalties.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It also required that a list of \u201cindividuals confirmed to be United States citizens who will be above the age of 18 at the time of an upcoming Federal election and who maintain a residence in the subject State\u201d would be provided to the Secretary of Homeland Security.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe State Citizenship List shall be updated and transmitted to State election officials no fewer than 60 days before each regularly scheduled Federal election, or promptly upon request by a State in connection with any special Federal election,\u201d Trump\u2019s executive order <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2026\/03\/ensuring-citizenship-verification-and-integrity-in-federal-elections\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">specified<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nichols <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ecf.dcd.uscourts.gov\/cgi-bin\/show_public_doc?2026cv1114-143\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">highlighted<\/a> the multiple claims of the \u201cirreparable injuries\u201d each plaintiff would suffer due to Trump\u2019s directive.
