Supplied Qatar With Tech to \u2018Prevent Nuclear Security Incident\u2019 at 2022 World Cup\">major public events<\/a>. <\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNearly 70,000 vehicles cross the bridge each day, most of which are from Virginia, and many more pass through the environs on their way through Northern Virginia,\u201d Beyer wrote in the letter, warning the monument could worsen congestion at a key entrance into Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also said the arch could interfere with nearby landmarks, including the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/arlington-national-cemetery\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"3817\">Arlington National Cemetery<\/a> and the Lincoln Memorial, raising concerns about pedestrian safety and emergency vehicle access in the area. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beyer requested \u201ctraffic studies and any other documentation available regarding plans\u201d from the Department of the Interior and the National Park Service as part of planning for the monument. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump has championed the monument, sometimes referred to as the \u201cIndependence Arch,\u201d as a signature project tied to the nation\u2019s 250th anniversary celebrations, arguing Washington lacks a monumental ceremonial entrance comparable to iconic arches in European capitals. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A revised design was approved by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/im-not-mad-the-fed-renovation-costs-billions-im-mad-its-ugly\/\" title=\"I&#039;m Not Mad The Fed Renovation Costs Billions, I&#039;m Mad It&#039;s Ugly\">fine arts commission<\/a> despite widespread opposition and objections from preservation groups and Democratic lawmakers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >latest approved design removed proposed lion statues<\/a> and an elevated platform but retained a Lady Liberty-style figure atop the granite arch, along with gilded eagles and patriotic inscriptions. Opponents argue the arch would obstruct the historic sightline between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington House, disrupt a solemn military landscape, and require congressional authorization because it would be built on federal land.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project still faces review by the National Capital Planning Commission, which is expected to consider construction approvals in June.
