As a result, Polis is barred as an honored guest, featured speaker, or recognized party representative at party-sponsored events.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Less than a week before that, the governor granted clemency to former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters, who was convicted of election interference. Her nine-year prison sentence was dramatically reduced. She is set for release on parole on June 1.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Polis made the contentious decision to release Peters after President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"4\">Donald Trump<\/a> repeatedly pressured him to do so. Her legal team previously raised concerns about the safety and health hurdles she faced in jail at 70 years old.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Democratic leadership in the Colorado legislature <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cohousedems.com\/news\/democratic-leaders-respond-to-commutation-of-tina-peters%E2%80%99-sentence\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.cohousedems.com\/news\/democratic-leaders-respond-to-commutation-of-tina-peters%E2%80%99-sentence\">uniformly opposed<\/a> the governor\u2019s clemency action, while Rep. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/lauren-boebert\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"3037\">Lauren Boebert<\/a> (R-CO) and other Republicans gave him due credit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPolis and I have had many conversations regarding Tina\u2019s unjust punishment and her release,\u201d Boebert <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/laurenboebert\/status\/2055396167492493623\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/x.com\/laurenboebert\/status\/2055396167492493623\">posted on X<\/a> earlier this month. \u201cMy heart was filled with joy when he called me today to share this great news!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Peters was accused of <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >copying sensitive election system data<\/a> from Mesa County voting equipment during a 2021 software update. At the time, she was convinced by the allegations of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/youtube-bans-trumps-full-cpac-speech-unless-users-add-countervailing-viewpoints-about-election-claims\/\" title=\"YouTube Bans Trump\u2019s Full CPAC Speech Unless Users Add \u2018Countervailing Viewpoints\u2019 About Election Claims\u00a0\">widespread election fraud<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After she was granted clemency, Peters expressed remorse for her past actions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI made mistakes, and for those I am sorry,\u201d she <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/realtinapeters\/status\/2055398882142781875\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/x.com\/realtinapeters\/status\/2055398882142781875\">said in a statement<\/a>. \u201cFive years ago I misled the Secretary of State when allowing a person to gain access to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/election-denier-tina-peters-to-be-granted-clemency-by-jared-polis\/\" title=\"Election denier ... to be ... by ...\">county voting equipment<\/a>. That was wrong.
