As the Toronto newspaper The Globe and Mail <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/CqrLB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">first reported<\/a>, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario found that Dr. James MacLean medically assessed a Crohn\u2019s Disease patient for euthanasia at a Tim Horton\u2019s coffee shop, then later gave him a ride to the euthanasia facility. As the Globe and Mail also reported, \u201cDr. MacLean administered the lethal medications in a room at a holding facility in an industrial unit where cadavers are prepared for transport to funeral homes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A second complaint followed an at-home euthanasia procedure in which MacLean administered drugs to end a patient\u2019s life, then pronounced the patient dead and left the home \u2014\u00a0returning to redo the procedure and pronounce death a second time after the patient started breathing again.<\/p>\n<p>You can read MacLean\u2019s disciplinary record <a href=\"https:\/\/register.cpso.on.ca\/physician-info\/?cpsonum=32654\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>. To continue to provide MAID as a physician, he\u2019ll be required to \u201cpractise under the guidance of a clinical supervisor or clinical supervisors \u2026 for at least six (6) months.\u201d MacLean is also required to engage in \u201creview, reflection, and discussion\u201d with his clinical supervisor regarding the meaning of MAID guidelines, covering topics like \u201cMaintaining Appropriate Boundaries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>MacLean has repeatedly declined to comment on the charges or the disciplinary proceeding.<\/p>\n<p>The website RateMD contains <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ratemds.com\/doctor-ratings\/3204858\/Dr-James-MacLean-London-ON.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mixed reviews<\/a> for MacLean, with many offering praise for his compassion and professional expertise. But another review describes him performing euthanasia procedures while wearing jeans and a \u201ccasual shirt,\u201d with a nurse who was \u201cwearing tight yoga pants and a tight t shirt.\u201d (\u201cThe nurse stood there texting on her phone with a smile on her face as my son was dying. As soon as his heart stopped they couldn\u2019t wait to get out.\u201d)<\/p>\n<p>Another review opens like this: \u201cDr. James MacLean may seem charming but so is Satan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Canadian doctors and health law scholars have warned for years that MAID keeps expanding, evading checks and balances. For clarity, this paragraph, from a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cambridge.org\/core\/journals\/palliative-and-supportive-care\/article\/realities-of-medical-assistance-in-dying-in-canada\/3105E6A45E04DFA8602D54DF91A2F568\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2023 paper<\/a> in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fire-fauci-new-study-finds-closing-schools-in-response-to-covid-19-delayed-herd-immunity-and-will-increase-overall-deaths\/\" title=\"FIRE FAUCI: New Study Finds Closing Schools In Response to COVID...19 Delayed Herd Immunity and Will Increase Overall ...\">medical journal<\/a>, is quoted with parenthetical citations removed:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Since its legalization in 2016, the number of deaths by MAiD in Canada has risen dramatically each year. Within 3 years of its introduction, 2% of all deaths in Canada were by MAiD, and by 2021, MAiD had increased to 3.3% of all deaths in Canada. Some areas of Canada presently are reporting MAiD death rates upwards of 7%. In 2021, Canada had 10,064 deaths by MAiD, surpassing all other countries for yearly reported assisted deaths.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>That same paper describes a long series of questionable MAID deaths, including a man euthanized for a \u201chearing and cognitive disability\u201d with \u201crecurrent episodes of depression\u201d and a woman who received MAID after a concussion. Death is also being suggested as an option to people who <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >require ongoing medical services<\/a>: \u201cA military veteran and former Paralympian who has been trying to get a wheelchair ramp installed at her home for the past 5 years testified that she was offered MAiD by her caseworker.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>You can read national guidelines for MAID <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/content\/dam\/hc-sc\/documents\/services\/medical-assistance-dying\/advice-profession\/advice-profession.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>. Don\u2019t miss sentences like this one on page 7: \u201cThere is debate about whether to consider a request for MAID as a form [of] suicidal ideation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/canada\/article-groups-urge-ottawa-to-permanently-halt-maid-for-mental-illness\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">growing opposition<\/a>, MAID eligibility is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholicregister.org\/item\/3897-carney-coy-about-m-ai-d-expansion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">expected to expand<\/a> on March 17, 2027, to allow medically assisted euthanasia for those who only suffer mental illness, with no terminal illness or physical ailment.
