They also carry high stakes for Gov. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/josh-shapiro\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"5122\">Josh Shapiro<\/a> (D-PA), whose political standing could rise or fall as he looks toward a likely 2028 Democratic presidential campaign.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pennsylvania\u2019s importance in the battle for control of the House reflects its long-standing status as one of the country\u2019s premier swing states. The Keystone State backed former <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"471\">President\u00a0Joe Biden <\/a>in 2020 before narrowly flipping to Trump in 2024, alongside Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, and Wisconsin.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Republicans are working to defend their advantage there amid Trump\u2019s sagging approval ratings, persistent economic anxiety, and fallout from the war in Iran. Democrats, meanwhile, are pouring resources into the competitive races in hopes of capitalizing on the political environment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The DCCC believes a slate of Democratic challengers \u2014 Bob Harvie in the 1st District, Bob Brooks in the 7th,\u00a0Paige Cognetti\u00a0in the 8th, and\u00a0Janelle Stelson\u00a0in the 10th \u2014 can capitalize on those headwinds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ad in the 1st District targets Fitzpatrick\u2019s claims of political independence, accusing him of taking \u201cmillions from Trump megadonors\u201d while ultimately voting in alignment with Republican leadership.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite Democratic efforts to tie Fitzpatrick to Trump, the congressman has often maintained a distance from the president. Most recently, Fitzpatrick said he would \u201ctry and kill\u201d Trump\u2019s proposed $1.8 billion \u201cAnti-Weaponization Fund,\u201d which would compensate people who believe they were unfairly investigated or prosecuted by the government.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fitzpatrick also opposed Trump\u2019s One Big Beautiful Bill Act, arguing it failed to sufficiently address affordability concerns, and criticized the administration\u2019s \u201clack of moral clarity\u201d regarding the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/russia-ukraine-war\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"311\">Russia-Ukraine war.<\/a> He also rebuked Trump after remarks criticizing <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/pope-leo-xiv\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"11789\">Pope Leo XIV<\/a> and condemned inflammatory rhetoric following the murders of Rob and Michelle Reiner.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Still, Democrats are trying to tether Fitzpatrick to Trump\u2019s broader political agenda.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFitzpatrick has mastered the art of the meaningless gesture but has failed to do anything meaningful to lower costs or make life better for working families,\u201d Cousin said. \u201cThat\u2019s the record he will be judged on in November.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the 7th District \u2014 widely viewed as Pennsylvania\u2019s purest swing-seat battleground \u2014 the DCCC is portraying Mackenzie as an out-of-touch career politician with a \u201cdecade-long record of attacking affordable healthcare.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DCCC Chairwoman\u00a0Suzan DelBene\u00a0(D-WA) called Mackenzie a \u201clapdog in D.C. for Donald Trump and the billionaire class.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Strategists in both parties expect the race to focus heavily on affordability and economic insecurity in a region shaped by manufacturing decline, warehouse growth, and demographic shifts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe fight for the Lehigh Valley has become a political microcosm of modern Pennsylvania: post-industrial, economically anxious, demographically shifting, and increasingly difficult for either party to fully consolidate,\u201d political analyst James Christopher told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cDemocrats have often performed well there when they speak directly to material concerns like healthcare access, warehouse labor conditions, housing affordability, and infrastructure investment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Pennsylvania\u2019s 8th District, Democrats are focusing on stock trades Bresnahan made that appeared to conflict with his 2024 campaign rhetoric supporting a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-stays-out-of-congressional-stock-trading-debate\/\" title=\"Biden Stays Out of ...
