Mayor Muriel Bowser signed an emergency order reinstating a mandatory teen curfew for 15 days, running until June 6. The curfew requires teenagers under 18 too be indoors by 11 p.m. and allows the Metropolitan Police Department chief to set extended curfew zones starting at 8 p.m. when groups of at least nine youths gather.<\/p>\n<p>The move comes as city officials respond to \u201cteen takeover\u201d violence, including a widely shared fight at a Chipotle in the Navy Yard area.Bowser\u2019s office cited the incident in the order, arguing that police could act more quickly if they had authority to disperse groups earlier. The <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >order reflects heightened pressure<\/a> from federal and local prosecutors as well, including threats of fines and potential prison time for parents who do not supervise delinquent children.<\/p>\n<p>Bowser is also pushing the D.C. The last time Bowser <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/crime\/4532559\/muriel-bowser-reinstate-juvenile-curfew-dc\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/crime\/4532559\/muriel-bowser-reinstate-juvenile-curfew-dc\/\">authorized<\/a> a 15-day emergency order for teen curfews was in mid-April after the council let it expire.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The latest measure comes days after a group of young boys attacked each other in the middle of a Chipotle restaurant in Navy Yard, a neighborhood notoriously known for its \u201cteen takeovers\u201d and rampant petty crime in general.
