Gregory Meeks (D-NY), who authored the bill, accused GOP leadership of delaying despite being confident the measure would pass, calling it \u201ccheating.\u201d He argued Republicans had the votes lined up but postponed the action as gasoline and food prices were rising.<\/p>\n<p>The resolution had been poised to curb President Donald Trump\u2019s war powers regarding Iran. The vote was withdrawn after GOP leadership faced multiple absences over the Memorial Day weekend. Meeks\u2019s bill follows two earlier similar war powers resolutions that reached Rep. We had the votes without question.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The war powers resolution was pulled after GOP leadership faced several absences ahead of the Memorial Day weekend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >prior war powers resolutions<\/a> came down to Rep. Jared Golden (D-ME), who was the only Democratic \u201cno\u201d vote. Last week, Golden signaled he would support the Meeks-authored measure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/4578599\/white-house-meeting-gop-leadership-canceled\/\">WHITE HOUSE MEETING WITH TRUMP CANCELED OVER IMPASSE ON \u2018ANTI-WEAPONIZATION\u2019 FUND<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/war-powers-resolution\/\">1973 War Powers Resolution<\/a> limits a president\u2019s unilateral military action to 60 days before having to seek authorization from Congress.
