Court documents cited in the reporting describe how providers were required to collect and certify family co-payments to participate, and to submit reimbursement claims through a state-run system while certifying that co-payments were collected (or waived) as required-claims Mahamud is accused of falsifying.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities also allege the broader scheme involved more than $5 million across multiple government programs, including an additional $850,000 from federal child nutrition efforts.The investigation reportedly found she submitted over 13,000 questionable claims between October 2022 and december 2025, alleging more than 60,000 meals per month.<\/p>\n<p>This case follows earlier legal trouble in 2026 tied to Mahamud\u2019s alleged involvement in a <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >separate 0 million fraud scheme involving<\/a> the \u201cFeeding our Future\u201d program during the COVID-19 period. The co-payment amount was based on family and annual income after allowable deductions. Co-payments were graduated to move families toward full payment of their child care costs as their income increased.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cChild care providers submitted claims through the Provider Hub, administered by the DHS and DCYF,\u201d noted court documents. \u201cIn submitting claims for reimbursement from CCAP, child care providers were required to certify that they had collected co-payments consistent with program requirements, had waived co-payment collection, or were owed a co-payment debt.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mahamud is accused of defrauding multiple government programs for over $5 million, including the aforementioned $4.6 million through Minnesota\u2019s CCAP and an additional $850,000 from federal programs designed to aid child nutrition, Minnesota\u2019s Fox 9 reported. This <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/owner-daycare-viral-nick-shirley-video-charged-daycare-fraud-scheme-prosecutors-say\">reportedly<\/a> involved allegedly filing of over 13,000 bogus claims for over three years, between October 2022 and December 2025. Shortly after being featured in the viral video, Mahamud permanently closed the daycare center, according to multiple reports.
