Tim Walz, another Democratic governor making national headlines is far worse, the Manhattan Institute\u2019s Christopher Rufo said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe scale of it in the state of California is just another level entirely,\u201d he said, according to the New York Post. In fact, he said, it makes Minnesota\u2019s massive fraud look like \u201cchild\u2019s play.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rufo was speaking on \u201cPod Force One,\u201d a podcast hosted by New York Post columnist Miranda Devine.<\/p>\n<div class=\"firefly-embed\"> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Christopher Rufo: Democrats' Vote Farming &#038; Fraud\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yRPKjOprNQY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Minnesota\u2019s fraud has been largely centered in the state\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/breaking-doj-announces-98-total-arrests-minnesota-fraud-case-85-somali-descent\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">large Somali community<\/a>. But in Newsom\u2019s California, the potential for theft has attracted a global element.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndividuals from all walks of life, all nationalities, even all parts of the country have recognized that the California government is essentially open to business for fraud schemes,\u201d Rufo said, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/20\/us-news\/california-benefit-scams-make-minnesota-fraud-look-like-childs-play-chris-rufo-tells-pod-force-one\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York Post<\/a> report.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut there is also this ethnic, ethno-political element,\u201d Rufo said, according to the newspaper. \u201cAnd you see certain populations, for example, the Armenians in Southern California, that seem to be perpetrating fraud at scale.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne police detective I talked to said Romanians, Armenians, Nigerians, there are certain kind of sub-populations or national populations that have been caught over and over and over ripping off the state government.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rufo has an established track record of uncovering misuse of public funds.<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, his revelations about a Texas Children\u2019s Hospital in Houston allegedly falsifying Medicaid records to <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >fund sex-change surgeries<\/a> and hormone treatments for children <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/scandal-ridden-hospital-open-first-us-detransition-clinic-historic-legal-settlement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sparked an investigation<\/a> by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton that eventually forced a settlement.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, in the wake of the fires that devastated Los Angeles, he publicized Los Angeles Fire Department internal documents that showed how the department\u2019s commitment to \u201cdiversity, equity, and inclusion\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/internal-docs-show-2-la-fire-depts-top-3-goals-dei-disaster-recovery-ranked-dead-last\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pushed disaster recovery<\/a> to the bottom of the department\u2019s priorities.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, in a report in the Manhattan Institute\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.city-journal.org\/article\/death-row-porn-tablets-california\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">City Journal<\/a>, he blew the whistle on California spending $189 million in taxpayer money on computer tablets that the state\u2019s prisoners are using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/gavin-newsom-spent-189-million-giving-every-california-inmate-tablet-now-used-personal-sex-machines-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to view pornography \u2014 and worse<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn this exclusive City Journal investigation, we contacted dozens of death-row inmates, who told us that prisoners in the state system use such devices to watch pornography and have explicit sexual conversations,\u201d Rufo wrote with co-author Haley Strack. \u201cSome prisoners, according to a former high-ranking California corrections official, use their tablets to groom minors. Though the state has claimed to regulate explicit content, the inmates told us that users can easily evade detection.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the \u201cPod Force One\u201d interview, he said California had become a \u201cbig fat target\u201d for criminals during Newsom\u2019s years in power, the New York Post reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey come to the United States, they come to California in particular, and one insider told us the thing about California is this, you\u2019re most likely to not get caught, and if you get caught you\u2019re most likely to not face charges, and if you do face charges and get convicted, you\u2019re most likely to not serve much, if any time at all,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd so, it\u2019s a means, motive and opportunity.
