Lewis George also argued that the city needs an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nyc-mayor-calls-white-woman-plantation-owner-in-heated-exchange\/\" title=\"NYC Mayor labels white woman as &#039;plantation owner&#039; in fiery argument.\">aggressive housing plan<\/a> because many residents face displacement amid the ongoing affordability crisis-where most <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >extremely low-income<\/a> renters spend more than half their income on rent and there are far too few affordable homes available. We\u2019re going to leverage our pension funds, billions of dollars that we can leverage to open up the doors from financing to continue to build more housing, and we\u2019re going to leverage our federal dollars and make sure that we\u2019re using all of it to build more affordable housing here in the city.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The D.C. police union took issue with her statement, though Lewis George did not expand upon how she intended to \u201cleverage\u201d the district\u2019s pension funds.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> has reached out to Lewis George\u2019s campaign for comment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can build more housing,\u201d Lewis George said during the debate. \u201cThis moment calls for us to have an aggressive plan to do so, because so many our families are facing displacement in this city.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The district has been facing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/riding-post-recall-mandate-newsom-bans-most-single-family-only-zoning-in-california\/\" title=\"Riding Post-Recall Mandate, Newsom Bans Most Single-Family-Only Zoning In California\">housing affordability crisis<\/a> for several years. Four out of five extremely low-income D.C. renters spend over 50% of their paychecks on rent, and there are just 32 affordable, available homes for every 100 of these renters, according to a J.P.
