When Tapper asked whether he would apply, Comey said he would consult his lawyers but that it \u201ccertainly sounds intended for someone like me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Comey\u2019s remarks referenced his own legal troubles with the Trump governance, including a second indictment in April tied to allegations he threatened President donald Trump in a now<a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >-deleted social media post<\/a>. The DOJ said the fund is meant to compensate people who claim they were targeted for political, personal, or ideological reasons during the Biden administration, and it was created as part of a settlement of Trump\u2019s lawsuit against the IRS over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-files-100m-lawsuit-against-the-new-york-times-niece-over-leaked-tax-records\/\" title=\"Trump Files 0M Lawsuit Against The New York Times, Niece Over Leaked Tax Records\">leaked tax records<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement has drawn criticism from Democrats, with Rep. It\u2019s to compensate people who\u2019ve been targeted by the Justice Department for, they say personal, political, or ideological reasons. So I\u2019m guessing I\u2019ll be in line. A longtime opponent of President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"4\">Donald Trump<\/a>, Comey was <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/4546191\/james-comey-indicted-second-time-report\/\" type=\"post\" id=\"4546191\">indicted for a second time<\/a> in April over allegations that he threatened the president\u2019s life in a since-deleted social media post.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, the DOJ announced a $1.776 billion \u201canti-weaponization fund\u201d that could compensate Jan. 6 Capitol riot defendants and allies of Trump who claim they were politically targeted during the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/biden-administration\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"445\">Biden administration<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The fund was established as part of a settlement resolving Trump\u2019s lawsuit against the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/internal-revenue-service\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"2339\">Internal Revenue Service <\/a>over his leaked tax records.<\/p>\n<p>Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General Trent McCotter said the use of federal power \u201cto target individuals or entities for improper and unlawful political, personal, or ideological reasons should not be tolerated by any administration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/4572715\/doj-announces-anti-weaponization-fund-biden-lawfare\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/4572715\/doj-announces-anti-weaponization-fund-biden-lawfare\/\">DOJ ANNOUNCES $1.776 BILLION \u2018ANTI-WEAPONIZATION\u2019 FUND FOR BIDEN LAWFARE VICTIMS<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The move has already drawn criticism from <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/democrats\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"249\">Democrats<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis, of course, is a political grievance fund that Donald Trump can use to pay off his friends,\u201d Rep.
