Musk argued the jury didn\u2019t weigh the case\u2019s evidence, calling it instead a \u201ccalendar technicality,\u201d and reiterated his claim that Altman and others enriched themselves by shifting OpenAI from a charity model to a for-profit structure, differing only on when the change occurred.<\/p>\n<p>He described the appeal as aimed at preventing a precedent that would \u201cloot charities,\u201d saying openai was founded to benefit humanity. The only question is WHEN they did it!\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>The trial drew hordes of media coverage as <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/artificial-intelligence\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"1658\">artificial intelligence<\/a> playmakers and media personnel waited to see how the results would affect the ever-growing industry. <\/p>\n<p>Musk was seeking hundreds of billions of dollars in damages from the defendants, including Microsoft, a partner of OpenAI. Musk\u2019s Grok and Altman\u2019s ChatGPT are now top competitors in the AI chatbot industry.
