The filing, submitted by his attorney in federal court in Miami, offered few details and came just days before a scheduled May 27 hearing on whether the case should be thrown out.<\/p>\n<p>The withdrawal aligns with reports that the Justice Department is considering creating a $1.7 billion compensation fund for people who say the federal government \u201cweaponized\u201d prosecutions during the Biden administration. Trump himself would reportedly not receive money under the arrangement, according to ABC News, which first reported on the fund plans.<\/p>\n<p>Those who may be eligible beneficiaries from the fund include some of the roughly 1,500 people prosecuted in connection with the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/january-6\/\">Jan. 6, 2021<\/a>, Capitol riot, and others who may have had their livelihoods upended over <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >politically charged prosecutions<\/a> during former President Joe Biden\u2019s term.<\/p>\n<p>Trump, his sons Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, and the Trump Organization filed the lawsuit earlier this year against the IRS and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/treasury-department\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"3544\">Treasury Department<\/a>, arguing the government failed to safeguard their tax records from unauthorized disclosure.<\/p>\n<p>The case stemmed from the actions of former IRS contractor Charles Littlejohn, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2579699\/ex-irs-contractor-who-leaked-trumps-tax-returns-pleads-guilty\/\">who pleaded guilty in 2023<\/a> to leaking the tax information of Trump and thousands of wealthy Americans, including billionaires such as SpaceX CEO <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/elon-musk\/\">Elon Musk<\/a>, Amazon founder <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/elon-musk\/\">Jeff Bezos<\/a>, and Citadel CEO Ken Griffin, to media organizations, including the <em>New York Times<\/em> and <em>ProPublica<\/em>.
