Speaking to Fox News\u2019s Sean Hannity on Thursday, Trump indicated that China was positioning itself to abandon its support for Iran, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/defense\/4569895\/trump-xi-china-impressed-iran-war-oil-imports\/\" type=\"post\" id=\"4569895\">even seeming impressed<\/a> with the U.S.\u2019s performance in a war that killed Iran\u2019s leader and decimated its military.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe talked about it today, it\u2019s very interesting, but they\u2019re impressed,\u201d Trump said of China\u2019s assessment of the war in Iran. \u201cWe have a great military, we have the greatest military we\u2019ve ever had.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>China was one of the countries that stood to lose the most from the war in Iran, given its close economic relationship with the pariah state. Trump suggested they were striking a deal to solve that matter, with the U.S. substituting Iran\u2019s role in providing energy exports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Xi\u2019s] been very good. They get a lot of their oil, 40% of their oil from [Iran]. So, what has happened, and one thing I think that we\u2019re going to make a deal on, is they\u2019ve agreed they want to buy oil from the United States. They\u2019re going to go to Texas, we\u2019re going to start sending Chinese ships to Texas, and to Louisiana, and to Alaska,\u201d the president said, describing it as a \u201cbig thing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>China serves as a key economic lifeline for Iran, which has been blocked from dealing with most of the world\u2019s largest economies. If China were to lessen or withdraw its support, Tehran\u2019s situation would grow even more dire.<\/p>\n<p>Trump told Hannity that he was pushing Xi to do precisely this.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI told him today, I said, \u2018You know, we\u2019re helping you,\u2019 because I don\u2019t think \u2026 China wants Iran to have a nuclear weapon either,\u201d Trump said. \u201cI said, \u2018These guys are crazy, you don\u2019t need them having a nuclear weapon.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When pressed on how Xi responded, Trump said he played coy.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/defense\/4569895\/trump-xi-china-impressed-iran-war-oil-imports\/\" type=\"post\" id=\"4569895\">TRUMP SAYS CHINA \u2018IMPRESSED\u2019 BY IRAN WAR, HINTS AT BEIJING RESUMING US OIL IMPORTS<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, he\u2019s not going to respond too much.
