The House passed the measure 308-116, with most Republicans supporting it; 114 Democrats adn two House Republicans voted against. The bill, introduced by Rep. Mark Harris (R-NC), would cover offenses such as murder, rape, burglary, looting, and rioting, arguing that transparency would help the public and highlight where changes are needed. Supporters point to concerns that cashless bail can lead to higher rates of rearrest and further violence, while an office for one of the Republican voters said a vote was mistakenly cast and is being corrected.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<article class=\"fn-body\">\n<p>114 <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/house-democrats\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"441\">House Democrats<\/a> voted against legislation on Thursday requiring the Department of Justice to publicly identify jurisdictions with <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/crime\/4521179\/suspect-accused-killing-iryna-zarutska-incapable-proceed\/\" type=\"post\" id=\"4521179\">cashless bail<\/a> policies.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"http:\/\/congress.gov\/119\/bills\/hr5625\/BILLS-119hr5625rh.pdf\" type=\"link\" id=\"congress.gov\/119\/bills\/hr5625\/BILLS-119hr5625rh.pdf\">legislation<\/a> passed by a vote of 308-to-116 and now heads to the Senate. Ninety-six Democrats joined <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/clerk.house.gov\/Votes\/2026171\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/clerk.house.gov\/Votes\/2026171\">211<\/a> Republicans to vote in favor. Rep. Kevin Kiley (I-CA), an independent who caucuses with the GOP, also voted for the measure. Mark Harris (R-NC), would require the attorney general to publish an annual list of state and local governments that allow suspects accused of crimes deemed threats to public safety to be released without posting cash bail. Covered offenses include murder, rape, burglary, looting, and rioting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmericans should be able to see which jurisdictions have enacted dangerous and irresponsible policies related to bail when making decisions about where to live, work, or travel,\u201d Harris said. \u201cIt also shows Americans where change is needed most.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe American people deserve transparency and accountability when it comes to policies that affect public safety,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past decade, numerous states and cities have <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >adopted cashless bail laws<\/a>. Under the system, judges are prevented from mandating that individuals charged with crimes post bail before being released from police custody pending trial.
