Drops Discrimination Lawsuit Against ...\">race-based admissions<\/a> after the Supreme Court\u2019s 2023 ruling barring affirmative action in collage admissions.<\/p>\n<p>Citing *Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard*, the DOJ says Yale still favored Black and Hispanic applicants over other racial groups. Investigators point to internal documents, training materials, and communications they say show an intention to keep considering race, including verbal guidance after the Court\u2019s decision rather than written policy changes. They also cite disparities in academic outcomes between admitted students and mention a 2024 presentation suggesting staff were being instructed on \u201cAdmissions post-SCOTUS,\u201d along with other <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >post-decision materials referencing updated guidance<\/a> on considering race.<\/p>\n<p>Despite these findings, the DOJ says it is indeed pursuing a voluntary resolution agreement with Yale rather than announcing penalties. that Yale University School of Medicine continued to favor black and Hispanic applicants over students from other racial groups following the ruling.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>\u201cThe Department finds that after <em>Harvard<\/em>, Yale discriminated against other applicants to benefit preferred race classes of Black and Hispanic,\u201d the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/crt\/media\/1440601\/dl\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/crt\/media\/1440601\/dl\">DOJ report<\/a> reads.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators cited internal documents, training materials, and communications that they say showed an intent to continue considering race in admissions decisions.<\/p>\n<p>The department also pointed to disparities in academic metrics between admitted black and Hispanic applicants and applicants from other racial groups, arguing that \u201chighly qualified White, Asian, and other students were denied admission on the basis of their race.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Federal investigators said Yale appeared to continue discussing race in admissions after the Supreme Court ruling through verbal guidance rather than written policies. <\/p>\n<p>The report cited a 2024 admissions presentation containing a slide titled only \u201cAdmissions post-SCOTUS,\u201d which officials said suggested staff were being instructed verbally on how to continue considering race in admissions decisions.<\/p>\n<p>The department also referenced several redacted documents dated after the Harvard decision, including one labeled \u201cGuidance on Consideration of Race Updated 8.15.25.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYale has continued its race-based admissions program despite the Supreme Court and the public\u2019s clear mandate for reform,\u201d <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/justice-department-investigation-determines-yales-medical-school-discriminated-based-race\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/justice-department-investigation-determines-yales-medical-school-discriminated-based-race\">said<\/a> Harmeet Dhillon, the assistant attorney general for the Justice Department\u2019s Civil Rights Division. \u201cThis Department will continue to shed light on these illegal practices, and demand that institutions of higher education comply with federal
