Three co-authors are profiled:

– **Valena Beety (Indiana university)**: described as writing on wrongful convictions and forensic evidence, with an upcoming book centered on criminalization of motherhood/pregnancy and queer identity. The piece cites her public advocacy on abortion-related fundraising and posts supporting transgender rights-related positions, and it claims Federal Election Commission records show extensive donations to ActBlue and Democratic candidates, including a 2026 Senate bid in Mississippi.

– **Jane Campbell Moriarty (Duquesne University)**: presented as a forensics guide co-author whose donations are described as supporting Democratic presidential efforts and campaigns (including ActBlue and John Fetterman’s 2022 campaign). The article also references academic writings criticizing “decline of expertise” and disputes with the Trump governance, arguing this shows her ideological orientation.

– **Andrea Roth (UC Berkeley)**: described as focused on criminal procedure and evidentiary law in science-based prosecutions. The article says she signed onto Democratic reform initiatives (e.g., praise for Obama-era criminal justice reforms) and reports FEC-linked donations to Democratic presidential and congressional efforts, as well as PAC support.

The piece concludes that this pattern suggests an “unchecked” bureaucracy in which taxpayer-funded federal bodies incorporate ideologically aligned contributors into materials used by federal judges. It also notes a response from Republican Sen. Eric schmitt emphasizing opposition to “taxpayer-funded ideological conditioning” of judges and points readers to an earlier part of the investigation.

The Federal Judicial Center (FJC) casts itself as an ostensibly nonpartisan research agency that provides “objective information and education” to America’s judicial system. So, why did it permit major Democrat donors — several of whom openly espouse radical leftist views — to author part of an FJC manual advising judges on scientific matters before the bench?

The new discovery comes as part of The Federalist’s investigation into the taxpayer-funded FJC. The federal agency has come under fire in recent years following reports about left-wing climate activists’ growing bid to influence federal judges on environmental-related cases through the Federal Judicial Center.

Just last week, The Federalist revealed how the authors of a since-retracted “Reference Guide on Climate Science” contained in the FJC’s latest Reference Manual on Scientific Evidence are radical leftists. This reporting came months after it was discovered that the climate section of the manual — which advises federal judges in their assessment of science-related matters in cases — was littered with citations and footnotes to left-wing climate advocates.

As it turns out, however, that was only the tip of the iceberg.

A Federalist inquiry into the manual’s “Reference Guide on Forensic Feature Comparison Evidence” shows that the section’s authors have made numerous financial contributions to Democrats and Democrat-aligned entities in years prior.
