And if they do not aggressively prosecute Medicaid fraud, we are going to turn off the money that goes to these anti-fraud units,\u201d Vance told reporters in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building\u2019s Indian Treaty Room. <\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/former-vice-president-mike-pence-joins-the-heritage-foundation\/\" title=\"Former Vice ... Mike Pence Joins The Heritage Foundation\">vice president added<\/a>, \u201cIf we continue to find problems, we can turn off other resources within their state Medicaid programs as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vance is now expected to amplify the message during a swing through Maine on Thursday, where he\u2019ll also campaign for former Republican Gov. Paul Lepage\u2019s House bid.<\/p>\n<p>The anti-fraud message provides Vance with the opportunity to present himself as an important member of the Trump administration at a time when the president and his aides are simultaneously coming under pressure over issues ranging from <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/iran\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"100\">Iran<\/a> to convicted sexual offender <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/jeffrey-epstein\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"1860\">Jeffrey Epstein<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It also provides Vance with the opportunity to define himself in contrast not only to Secretary of State <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/marco-rubio\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"51\">Marco Rubio<\/a>, who is considered to be another 2028 Republican presidential contender, but also potential 2028 Democrats, including Govs. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/gavin-newsom\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"1426\">Gavin Newsom<\/a> (D-CA), <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/jb-pritzker\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"3929\">JB Pritzker<\/a> (D-IL), and even <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/tim-walz\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"11523\">Tim Walz <\/a>(D-MN). Walz\u2019s prospects, however, have precipitously declined since he suspended his gubernatorial reelection campaign last year after rampant fraud was uncovered in <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/minnesota\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"443\">Minnesota<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>To that end, Vance on Wednesday particularly targeted Newsom, who averages <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolling.com\/polls\/president\/democratic-primary\/2028\/national\">19% support<\/a> behind former Vice President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/kamala-harris\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"748\">Kamala Harris<\/a> in early 2028 Democratic presidential polls.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re announcing that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/better-than-expected-u-s-economy-added-638000-jobs-in-october-unemployment-dropped-to-6-9\/\" title=\"Better Than Expected: U.S. Economy Added 638,000 Jobs in October, Unemployment Dropped to 6.9%\">federal government<\/a> is deferring $1.3 billion in Medicaid reimbursements from the state of <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/california\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"60\">California<\/a>, and the simple reason is because the state of California has not taken fraud very seriously,\u201d Vance said.<\/p>\n<p>The popularity of Vance\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >anti-fraud task force<\/a> among Trump\u2019s MAGA base, to which the vice president must appeal to have any hope in 2028, was emphasized in the case of Walz. The <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/justice-department\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"167\">Justice Department<\/a> alleged last December that half or more of the $18 billion in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gop-lawmakers-should-issue-one-last-covid-shutdown-wasteful-pandemic-slush-funds\/\" title=\"GOP lawmakers should shut down wasteful pandemic &quot;slush funds&quot; now\">federal funds spent<\/a> on 14 Minnesota-run programs for the likes of child nutrition, housing services, and autism since 2018 may have been pilfered.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/healthcare\/4562933\/trump-unveils-ivf-insurance-coverage-plan-for-2027\/\"><strong>TRUMP UNVEILS IVF INSURANCE COVERAGE PLAN FOR 2027<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But despite its popularity with MAGA, Vance\u2019s anti-fraud task force is not without political risk. Going after Medicaid could open up Vance to accusations from Democrats that he\u2019s hampering access to healthcare for poor people.
