Victoria Spartz said she did not renew her former staffer Cynthia West\u2019s employment in Rep. Thomas Massie\u2019s ex-girlfriend\u2019s case due to \u201cconcerning conduct.\u201d West had alleged that Massie offered her $5,000 to drop a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fired-probationary-workers-have-their-complaints-dropped-by-investigating-agency\/\" title=\"Fired probationary workers have their complaints dropped by investigating agency\">wrongful termination complaint<\/a> involving Spartz.  <\/p>\n<p>spartz\u2019s office denied any knowlege of a $5,000 settlement proposal, disputed claims that West was terminated, and said her temporary employment ended after 90 days for conduct-related reasons. Spartz has never heard of an alleged $5,000 settlement proposal \u2014 or any other settlement proposal \u2014 by Rep. Massie regarding allegations Ms. West brought against Rep. Spartz\u2019s office,\u201d her office said in a statement, adding that a video posted by West was the first time she had heard of a payment. \u201cOn a personal level, Rep. Spartz considers Thomas Massie to be one of the strongest supporters of women in Congress and a defender of women\u2019s rights among her GOP colleagues. Rep. Spartz has seen him in action.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The statement went on to dispute West\u2019s claims that she was \u201cterminated\u201d after her and Massie ended their relationship, and that she was offered a separate settlement of $60,000 that required her to sign a nondisclosure agreement. West had claimed Massie landed her the job in Spartz\u2019s office so she could spend more time with him in <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/washington-dc\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"260\">Washington, D.C<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMs. West was not terminated by our office; rather, her temporary employment was not extended beyond 90 days due to concerning conduct by Ms. West,\u201d the statement said. \u201cA few months later, Ms. West brought allegations against Rep. Spartz\u2019s office, which Rep. Spartz denied and refused to settle during the pre-filing period.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRecently, due to delays and other circumstances in this case, Rep. Spartz was willing to reconsider settlement discussions in order to save taxpayer money and mitigate disruptions to the operation of the office. At no point did Rep. Spartz try to force Ms. West into a non-disclosure agreement,\u201d her office added. <\/p>\n<p>Spartz said she would be \u201chappy\u201d to disclose any documents relating to West\u2019s allegations and employment. <\/p>\n<p>West had claimed she was fired from Spartz\u2019s office for raising concerns about what she called a toxic work environment, as well as Spartz hiring a noncitizen for a district director role and involvement in Ukrainian elections.<\/p>\n<p>Spartz has a reputation for being one of the \u201cworst bosses\u201d on Capitol Hill, with the highest turnover rate among House members from 2001-2024, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.legistorm.com\/turnover\/worst_bosses.html\">according to<\/a> LegiStorm. I\u2019ve never offered anyone money in exchange for their silence. I report all of my farm income, including cash, to the IRS. There are no ethics claims filed against me, nor have there ever been any claims filed against me in my 14 years in office.
