Rand Paul of Kentucky, Chairman of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hsgac.senate.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Senate Homeland Security Committee<\/a>, of acting \u201cin bad faith\u201d by issuing a subpoena to an alleged CIA whistleblower who then testified to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/top-fauci-adviser-indicted-alleged-covid-origins-cover\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. Anthony Fauci\u2019s<\/a> \u201cintentional\u201d role in a COVID-19 origins cover-up.<\/p>\n<p>Special operations officer James Erdman III appeared before Paul\u2019s committee on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/13\/us-news\/cia-whistleblower-ided-as-james-erdman-iii-in-dramatic-reveal-at-rand-paul-covid-origins-hearing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York Post<\/a>, Paul lauded Erdman III as a former Army Ranger who has worked with the State Department and, more recently, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.<\/p>\n<p>None of that endeared the Kentucky senator to Erdman III\u2019s current employer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are not happy with the way this hearing is going down,\u201d Melugin said of the CIA in a clip of a live report from Capitol Hill posted to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-new-acting-attorney-general-jeff-rosen-recently-wrote-an-essay-on-foreign-influence-in-us-elections-this-tells-us-a-little-about-his-knowledge-of-whats-going-on-today\/\" title=\"The New Acting Attorney General Jeff Ro... Recently Wrote an Essay on Foreign Influence in US Elections \u2013 This Tells Us A Little About His Knowledge of What\u2019s Going On Today\">social media platform<\/a> X. \u201cThey are accusing Senator Rand Paul and the Senate Homeland Security Committee of, quote, \u2018acting in bad faith\u2019 in putting this hearing together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Moments later, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/fox-news-announces-big-promotion-star-reporter-bill-melugin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Melugin<\/a> read a CIA statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Committee acted in bad faith by subpoenaing an Agency officer for testimony today without notifying CIA, despite having already obtained closed-door testimony from the individual previously,\u201d the statement began.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe witness testifying today is not appearing as a whistleblower in pursuit of the truth, but instead in response to the subpoena issued by Chairman Paul,\u201d the statement continued. \u201cThis proceeding amounts to nothing more than a dishonest political theater masquerading as a congressional hearing. As the CIA has already assessed, COVID-19 most likely originated from a lab leak, and efforts to undermine that conclusion are disingenuous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then, before the committee hearing, Melugin asked Paul for a response to the CIA statement. The senator replied by touting \u201ctransparency\u201d and asserting that \u201cwe [the federal government] over-classify everything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Paul also demanded that the CIA \u201cobey the law\u201d and reveal its COVID-19 intelligence.<\/p>\n<p>The senator has spent more than a week <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/alert-rand-paul-warns-days-remain-charge-fauci-worst-cover-modern-medical-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warning<\/a> that the Justice Department must act to hold Fauci accountable.
