House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington said the GOP is building consensus around documented items that could affect affordability, urging stronger fraud prevention and noting resistance to efforts they say won\u2019t advance defense supplemental funding for the war in Iran.  <\/p>\n<p>Republican Study Committee Chairman August Pfluger pointed to an <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >earlier reconciliation framework targeting housing affordability<\/a>, healthcare, and energy, and said Republicans also want to tackle fraud more aggressively. Despite house leaders aiming for passage by late July, Senate Majority Leader John Thune and other GOP voices expressed skepticism, arguing the timetable is unrealistic and that the second bill\u2019s progress is still uncertain.  <\/p>\n<p>The push comes amid a separate fast-moving effort to craft a reconciliation-based funding package (up to $70 billion) for ICE and Customs and Border Protection, with President Trump wanting action by June 1. Speaker Mike Johnson has suggested a third reconciliation bill will advance, but Republicans\u2019 narrow margins and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sen-cruz-donald-j-trump-aint-going-anywhere\/\" title=\"Sen. Housing affordability, healthcare, and energy are the crux of the framework, which have already shaped up to be major factors in the 2026 elections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI still think it involves a lot of the framework that we provided, which is affordability on housing, energy, and healthcare. But also I think most of our conference, and especially after listening to Attorney General [Todd] Blanche today and previous speakers like Dr. Oz, we want to tackle fraud,\u201d Pfluger told the <em>Washington Examiner <\/em>after the RSC\u2019s weekly luncheon on Wednesday<em>. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>While House leadership has indicated they want to move full steam ahead, setting their sights on passage by the end of July. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) has poured cold water on the idea, as the second reconciliation bill has yet to pass.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t \u2014 if they\u2019re telling you that\u2019s what their schedule is \u2014 but we\u2019re still working on reconciliation 2.0,\u201d Thune told reporters. <\/p>\n<p>Thune isn\u2019t the only one expressing doubt. A senior GOP aide told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> that a third reconciliation bill is merely a \u201cpipe dream.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All of this comes as congressional Republicans are in a monthlong sprint to craft a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-gop-advances-70-billion-in-ice-and-cbp-funding\/\" title=\"House ... advances  billion in ICE and CBP funding\">funding deal providing<\/a> up to $70 billion for Immigration and Customs Enforcement and its sister agency, Customs and Border Protection, through the reconciliation process.
