Uthmeier had previously asked the NFL to suspend the policy, setting a may 1 response deadline.  <\/p>\n<p>Although NFL representatives responded and the league modified its website language, Uthmeier said the changes did not resolve what he views as Florida law violations, arguing the Rooney Rule unlawfully gives preference based on race. NFL lawyer Ted Ullyot responded to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fncs-dean-msm-coverage-of-cuomo-was-puff-pieces-while-there-were-bodybags-piling-up\/\" title=\"FNC&#039;s Dean: MSM Coverage of Cuomo Was &#039;Puff Pieces&#039; While &#039;There Were Bodybags Piling up&#039;\">attorney general\u2019<\/a>s request by then, but the league did not eliminate the policy or its diversity hiring programs.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>\u201cMy office appreciates the NFL\u2019s stated commitment to equal opportunity and nondiscrimination,\u201d Uthmeier <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AGJamesUthmeier\/status\/2054608577361301632\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AGJamesUthmeier\/status\/2054608577361301632\">wrote in a new letter<\/a>. \u201cWe also appreciate how quickly the NFL changed its website in response to our letter, as well as the NFL\u2019s assertion that it no longer requires the consideration of race or sex in the hiring of at least one offensive assistant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately, neither your letter nor the changes to your website assuage our concerns over the NFL\u2019s violations of Florida law,\u201d he said. \u201cIn fact, they raise new ones.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Uthmeier argues the Rooney Rule violates Florida law because it gives preference to one race over another, which he said is wrong, illegal, and unnecessary.<\/p>\n<p>The subpoena orders the league to appear at the Florida attorney general\u2019s office in Tallahassee on June 12 at 9 a.m., Fox News and OutKick reported.<\/p>\n<p>The subpoena effectively pressures the state\u2019s three professional football teams \u2014 Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers \u2014 not to apply the league\u2019s diversity hiring practices for top jobs.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/sports\/4512428\/roger-goodell-stands-by-rooney-rule\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/sports\/4512428\/roger-goodell-stands-by-rooney-rule\/\">NFL COMMISSIONER STANDS BY ROONEY RULE AND DIVERSITY DESPITE FLORIDA ATTORNEY GENERAL PRESSURE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The NFL has not made a public statement about the subpoena, but its leader did defend the Rooney Rule and similar policies after the attorney general\u2019s initial letter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne thing that doesn\u2019t change is our values, and we believe in diversity and its benefit to the National Football League,\u201d NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said. \u201cWe are well aware of the laws and where the laws are changing and evolving.
