He Was Showing How Many Times He Won.\">real-world violence<\/a> by insisting it was staged rather than confronting their role in creating a climate where such attacks occur.<\/p>\n<p>The article also points to examples of violent or dehumanizing political language from Democrats, cites additional polling showing rising openness to political violence among some Democrat and younger groups, and concludes that denial functions as \u201cgaslighting\u201d because it rejects obligation while continuing similar rhetoric.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Three weeks ago a gunman armed with multiple firearms burst through security lines at the White House Correspondents\u2019 Dinner to try and assassinate President Donald Trump and members of his cabinet. But according to 34 percent of Democrats, that assassination attempt was staged.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, that assassination attempt was only the <em>latest<\/em> staged attempt \u2014 if you ask some Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>A NewsGuard\/YouGov <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsguardrealitycheck.com\/p\/30-percent-of-americans-think-at-least-one-trump-assassination-attempt-was-staged?utm_source=Byron%20York%27s%20Daily%20Memo%20(05122026)_05%2F12%2F2026&#038;utm_medium=email&#038;utm_campaign=WEX%20-%20Alerts%20-%20York&#038;rid=24920086&#038;env=255225cc5c987c686388a9862442f36dc9076a0a9be5d282a8c08b4be704e7d7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">poll<\/a> found 30 percent of Americans \u201cbelieve that at least one of the three attempts on President Donald Trump\u2019s life over the last two years was staged.\u201d When broken down by party affiliation, 34 percent of Democrats said the WHCA dinner was staged. Forty-two percent of Democrats say the Butler assassination attempt \u2014 in which Trump was visibly hit and bleeding and in which Corey Comperatore was murdered \u2014 was staged. Twenty-six percent of Democrats say the attempted assassination that took place just weeks after Butler, in which Ryan Routh tried to assassinate the president on his golf course, was also staged. Thirteen percent of Republicans said the White House Correspondents\u2019 Dinner assassination attempt was staged, while 7 percent said both the Butler and Routh attempts were staged.<\/p>\n<p>The poll surveyed 1,000 Americans between April 28 and May 4. <\/p>\n<p>The assassination-denial conspiracy theories aren\u2019t limited to everyday Democrats, however; leftist pundits are also on board. Former MSNBC host <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/joy-reid-floats-theory-whca-dinner-shooting-could-have-been-staged-tied-trumps-ballroom-push\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Joy Reid<\/a> said that \u201codd things \u2026 keep happening around Trump\u201d before referencing a \u201cfake assassination\u201d of Viktor Orb\u00e1n that the Russians purportedly staged. \u201cSo, all of this thrown in together, you\u2019re like, when something seems too perfect, people, they don\u2019t \u2014 they don\u2019t believe in it. And Donald Trump now again gets victimized by an alleged would-be assassin in front of the perfect witnesses \u2014 the press.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>The View<\/em> co-host Ana Navarro <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/dcexaminer\/status\/2048784167589007587?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">suggested<\/a> Trump staged the attempt because he \u201clies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s odd to me that in a place that is teeming with Secret Service \u2026 this could happen,\u201d Navarro said. \u201cBut also I think people jump to that conclusion that it is staged because Trump lies \u2026 so people do not trust and do not believe anything Trump says. His lips are moving, the likelihood is, he is lying.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/donwinslow\/status\/2016615099629551770?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TDS-infected<\/a> author Don Winslow <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/donwinslow\/status\/2048895756531347921?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">claimed<\/a> the entire weekend around the dinner was \u201ccoordinated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So after badgering the public day in and day out with rhetoric designed to justify and even incite the most egregious political violence possible, Democrats now want to pretend the violence that predictably follows as a result of that rhetoric is \u201cstaged.\u201d Democrats and their allies in the propaganda press have spent years depicting Trump and his supporters as existential threats to democracy, \u201cfascists,\u201d \u201cdictators,\u201d Nazis, and enemies of the state. Now they don\u2019t want to accept responsibility for the consequences of their rhetoric.<\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s hard <em>not <\/em>to see the connection. <\/p>\n<p>The propaganda press has run an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dems-didnt-lower-temp-between-trump-assassination-attempts\/\" title=\"Dems Didn&#039;t \u2018Lower Temp\u2019 Between ... ...s\">assassination prep campaign<\/a> that, as The Federalist co-founder and CEO <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/seanmdav\/status\/1732931279421579321?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sean Davis<\/a> explained, is fueled by language \u201cmeant to justify and even incite the most extreme measures, up to and including unconscionable violence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To give just a few examples, The Atlantic\u2019s Marc Novicoff <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/ideas\/2026\/01\/america-trump-authoritarianism-kleptocracy\/685697\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">published<\/a> a piece this past January entitled \u201cHow to Tell If Your President Is a Dictator.\u201d The piece claims Trump\u2019s second term is \u201cliterally dictatorial.\u201d A 2023 Washington Post op-ed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2023\/11\/30\/trump-dictator-2024-election-robert-kagan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Robert Kagan<\/a> said, \u201cA Trump dictatorship is increasingly inevitable. We should stop pretending.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2023\/11\/30\/trump-dictator-2024-election-robert-kagan\/?utm_source=twitter&#038;utm_campaign=wp_opinions&#038;utm_medium=social\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kagan<\/a> also said a second Trump administration would be akin to Hitler\u2019s regime. <\/p>\n<p>Democrat politicans are eagerly peddling the same assassination-prep rhetoric. Ilhan Omar <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/IlhanMN\/status\/2021372148896682175\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">called<\/a> Trump \u201cthe leader of the Pedophile Protection Party\u201d and added that \u201cat least in Somalia they execute pedophiles not elect them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Just months ago, Democrats in Virginia elected <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/10\/03\/virginia-dem-ag-candidate-fantasized-about-assassinating-republican-wished-death-on-his-kids\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jay Jones<\/a> to serve as attorney general despite text messages from 2022 showing Jones wishing to kill his Republican colleague and former state House Speaker Todd Gilbert. \u201cGilbert gets two bullets to the head,\u201d Jay said in one message. \u201cYes, I\u2019ve told you this before. Only when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/va-dem-ag-candidate-fantasized-about-assassinating-republican\/\" title=\"VA Dem AG Candidate Fantasized About Assassinating Republican\">people feel pain personally<\/a> do they move on policy,\u201d he wrote in another, adding that Gilbert\u2019s children are \u201clittle fascists.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Graham Platner, the Democrat who had the Nazi tattoo and is running for Senate, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2025\/10\/16\/maine-senate-candidate-promoted-violent-political-action-in-since-deleted-online-posts-00613037\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">suggested<\/a> in 2018 that voters can\u2019t \u201cexpect to fight fascism without a good semi-automatic rifle.\u201d Elliot Forhan, a Democrat running for attorney general in Ohio, posted <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/01\/28\/democrats-are-literally-promising-to-kill-trump-if-they-get-power\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a video<\/a> this past January explaining how he would \u201ckill Donald Trump\u201d if elected to serve as attorney general. Forhan said he would kill the president \u201cwith the requirements of due process, resulting in a sentence, duly executed, of capital punishment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/05\/05\/heres-how-the-media-are-lying-right-now-ny-times-writer-claims-dems-dont-use-violent-rhetoric\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Eddie Scarry<\/a> highlighted in these pages, the owner of a Wisconsin brewery who is now running for governor as a Democrat <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/04\/28\/a-bounty-of-beer-marks-another-dark-turn-in-leftists-pursuit-of-a-dead-donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">offered free beer<\/a> when \u201ceither a brother or sister in the Resistance\u201d gets their \u201cmarksmanship\u201d right and Trump is successfully killed. Notably, the brewery also suggested Trump may have \u201cfaked another assassination to get a positive news cycle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When Democrats and corporate media leftists repeatedly tell Americans that Trump is Hitler and Republicans are fascists, they present violence to that end as justified, even acceptable \u2014 and their assassination prep has gained clear traction. In fact, Routh called Trump a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/11\/26\/us-news\/would-be-trump-assassin-ryan-routh-rages-name-drops-thomas-crooks-in-ranting-letter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dictator<\/a>\u201d in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/magazine\/2024\/11\/26\/ryan-routh-trump-alleged-assassin-letter-column-00190211\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">handwritten letter<\/a>, and he asserted in a self-published book that Trump \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2024\/09\/16\/nx-s1-5113801\/trump-shooting-assassination-attempt-suspect-ryan-wesley-routh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">perpetrated<\/a>\u201d the Jan. 6 unrest. The alleged shooter at the White House Correspondents\u2019 Dinner, Cole Tomas Allen, reportedly left a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/26\/us-news\/read-whcd-gunman-cole-allens-full-anti-trump-manifesto\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">manifesto<\/a> falsely accusing Trump of being a \u201cpedophile, rapist, and traitor.\u201d He allegedly wrote, \u201cAnd I am no longer willing to permit a pedophile, rapist, and traitor to coat my hands with his crimes,\u201d adding that he was not obligated to \u201cyield [elected officials and judges] anything so unlawfully ordered.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The rhetoric allegedly espoused by the WHCA dinner suspect is the same rhetoric shared by members of the Democrat Party and the corporate media. In fact the normalization and acceptance of political violence by the left has become so obvious even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politifact.com\/article\/2026\/may\/04\/political-violence-democrats-polling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Politifact<\/a> wrote that \u201cDemocrats and liberals are becoming more open to political violence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>PolitiFact also noted that \u201cyounger Americans today are more open to political violence than members of other age groups\u201d and that \u201cthe strongest Democratic rate of justifying violence was to remove Trump from office. More than 27% of Democrats said violence was justified for that purpose.\u201d PolitiFact was citing polling by the <a href=\"https:\/\/d3qi0qp55mx5f5.cloudfront.net\/cpost\/i\/docs\/CPOST_-_Understanding_Political_Violence_Survey_-_Sep_2025_Topline.pdf?mtime=1760457150\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Chicago Project on Security and Threats and NORC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A Marquette Poll taken days after Charlie Kirk was assassinated by a leftist showed 15 percent of Democrats believed that it is \u201cjustified for Americans today to resort to violence in order to achieve political goals.\u201d Twenty-five percent of respondents who identify as \u201cvery liberal\u201d agreed with the statement. A Reuters\/Ipsos poll found 7 percent of Democrats agreed with the statement that it is justifiable \u201cfor someone in my political party to commit violence to achieve a political goal,\u201d according to PolitiFact.<\/p>\n<p>The assassination attempts \u2014 which were not \u201cstaged\u201d \u2014 did not happen in a vacuum. Democrats and the propaganda press have spent years excusing, justifying, and even legitimizing political violence. Then when that violence becomes reality, they insist it was staged. And it\u2019s not because they genuinely believe it was \u201cstaged,\u201d but because acknowledging the reality of the attacks would force Democrats and the press to acknowledge that they are partially responsible for creating the conditions that have led to such violence.<\/p>\n<p>So instead, leftists will gaslight the public \u2014 the bullets were fake, the blood was fake, and Comperatore actually agreed to be murdered \u2014 all while spewing the same <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/in-debate-trump-said-dem-rhetoric-led-to-assassination-attempts\/\" title=\"In Debate ...
