He argued the sole motivation is preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. Trump noted that higher oil and gas prices-linked to Iran\u2019s control of the Strait of Hormuz-have worsened costs for Americans, but he still maintained that economics won\u2019t shape U.S. priorities on Iran.<\/p>\n<p>He also claimed that once the war ends, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-releases-list-of-president-trumps-accomplishments-and-it-is-historic\/\" title=\"... I don\u2019t think about Americans\u2019 financial situation. I don\u2019t think about anybody.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>\u201cI think about one thing. We cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon. That\u2019s all. That\u2019s the only thing that motivates.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Iran\u2019s control of the Strait of Hormuz, since the war began, has <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >significantly raised global oil<\/a> and gas prices.  <\/p>\n<p>Americans are now paying an average of $4.50 for a gallon of gas, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/gasprices.aaa.com\/\">according to AAA<\/a>. But one year ago, they were paying nearly $3.14 for a gallon of gas. <\/p>\n<p>In response to the increase, Trump called for <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/energy-and-environment\/4562887\/trump-calls-pause-federal-gas-tax-ease-prices-pump\/\">suspending the federal gas tax<\/a> on Monday. <\/p>\n<p>The high cost of gas could threaten Republican chances of keeping control of the House and Senate during the midterm elections in November. Republican lawmakers on Capitol Hill <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/energy-and-environment\/4563167\/gas-tax-pause-momentum-trump-hawley-luna\/\">moved quickly to introduce legislation<\/a> to pause the gas tax after Trump\u2019s backing. <\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s eyebrow-raising comments also came on the same day that <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/finance-and-economy\/4563753\/inflation-april-iran-energy-prices\/\">inflation rose to 3.8%<\/a> for the year ending in April, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.<\/p>\n<p>Yet Trump claimed the American public understands the need to deprive Iran of a nuclear weapon. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey understand that Iran can not have a nuclear weapon. If Iran has a nuclear weapon, the whole world would be in trouble, because they happen to be crazy,\u201d said Trump. \u201cNow, if the stock market goes up or down a little bit, the American people understand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump also claimed oil prices would drop when the war ends. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re going to see the stock market, which is already at the highest point in history, go through the roof,\u201d he said. \u201cYou\u2019re going to see a golden age of America, frankly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Over the weekend, Trump rejected a recent peace proposal from Tehran. Chinese President Xi Jinping and Trump are also expected to discuss the war this week during a two-day summit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, I think number one, we\u2019re going to have a long talk about it,\u201d Trump told reporters before departing with Beijing. \u201cI think he\u2019s been relatively good to be honestly, you look at the blockade, no problem.\u201d <\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/4561042\/trump-china-xi-jinping-visit\/\"><strong>WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT PRESIDENT TRUMP\u2019S TRIP TO CHINA<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Trump claimed the trip would be \u201cexciting,\u201d but cast doubt that the U.S. need Xi\u2019s help to end the war. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think we need any help with Iran,\u201d he also conceded. \u201cWe\u2019ll win it one way or the other.
