Meanwhile, Kellyanne conway-an America250 commissioner with close Trump ties-dismissed the idea that America250 and Freedom 250 are in conflict, saying they are collaborating as \u201cone movement\u201d for the anniversary. It epitomizes what is wrong with politics today.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>The Interior Department is responsible for dispersing federal funds earmarked for celebrating the semiquincentennial. PEER has suggested that Freedom 250 unlawfully diverted at least $100 million in <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >taxpayer funds supposedly designated<\/a> toward America250, and called\u00a0Interior Secretary <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/doug-burgum\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"5973\">Doug Burgum<\/a> in January to provide a full accounting of Freedom 250\u2019s budget. <\/p>\n<p>Freedom 250 is <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/entertainment\/4530307\/freedom-250-ufc-fight-white-house\/\">the organization <\/a>spearheaded by President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"4\">Donald Trump<\/a> to mark the milestone. America250 is the organization formally tasked by Congress to commemorate the anniversary. Both initiatives <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/4485493\/trump-freedom-250-unveils-indycar-race-track-national-mall-dc\/\">are working with federal partners<\/a> across departments to celebrate the country\u2019s 250th birthday throughout 2026. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe creation of a parallel entity to carry out work similar to America250 is blurring accountability, weakening congressional intent, and undermining public trust,\u201d Whitehouse said. \u201cThat trust is essential if the 250th anniversary is to be a moment of shared reflection rather than division. The American people deserve confidence that their money is being used responsibly, lawfully, and in service of an inclusive national commemoration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This week, Whitehouse accused Burgum of using Freedom 250 to implement Trump\u2019s pet projects under the guise of semiquincentennial initiatives. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt also continues a pattern of Secretary Doug Burgum dispensing with a variety of legal safeguards to improperly facilitate Trump projects \u2013 particularly around the nation\u2019s capital,\u201d he said. \u201cJust look no further than his more than $1 billion ballroom or vanity projects, such as the arch.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Kellyanne Conway, an America250 commissioner with close ties to Trump, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/4504747\/100-days-until-america250-five-host-cities-unveiled\/\">dismissed speculation<\/a> that America250 is feuding with Freedom 250, as she heralded \u201cgreat collaboration\u201d between the two groups. <\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/4537346\/former-presidents-unite-hopeful-message-america-250\/\"><strong>FOUR\u00a0FORMER\u00a0PRESIDENTS\u00a0UNITE WITH HOPEFUL MESSAGE AHEAD OF AMERICA 250<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re also very happy to be partners alongside Freedom 250 and the White House Task Force 250 as well,\u201d Conway said at a press conference. \u201cWe have full alignment around a shared goal of making this the biggest and most inspirational moment for at least one of them in our nation\u2019s young but inspiring and very robust history. I had the opportunity to discuss what we\u2019re doing with the president, with the chief of staff, with members of the Cabinet, and with others who are so aligned.
