In addition, Washington has vigorously sought to target individuals, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/defense\/4562522\/hegseth-calls-kelly-investigated-blabbing-classified-briefing\/\">including lawmakers<\/a>, believed to be leaking information to the press. <\/p>\n<p>In one instance, the DOJ has opened an inquiry into allegations that a Pentagon contractor illegally retained classified documents and leaked them to <em>Washington Post <\/em>reporter Hannah Natanson, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/4431009\/contractor-allegedly-leaked-information-washington-post-indicted\/\">who is accused <\/a>of using the data to write \u201cat least five articles that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-73976-ballots-released-by-maricopa-county-56-1-for-donald-trump\/\" title=\"BREAKING: 73,976 Ballots Released By Maricopa County \u2014 56.1% FOR DONALD TRUMP\">contained classified information<\/a>.\u201d The FBI has <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/4428767\/judge-fbi-review-washington-post-reporter-electronics\/\">sought to review <\/a>Natanson\u2019s two phones, two laptops, a recorder, a portable hard drive, and a Garmin watch as part of the government\u2019s inquiry into the pair. <\/p>\n<p>In another case, a former soldier and employee at Fort Bragg was <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/4521662\/army-veteran-charged-classified-leak-journalist\/\">recently arrested and charged<\/a> with leaking classified information about Delta Force to journalist Seth Harp, who published some of the information in his book, <em>The Fort Bragg Cartel: Drug Trafficking and Murder in the Special Forces<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The Trump administration has brought a number of lawsuits against media outlets it believes have distorted facts or published classified information. <\/p>\n<p>FBI Director Kash Patel last month sued the <em>Atlantic <\/em>for publishing a report <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/4559238\/kash-patel-feud-atlantic-coverage-what-to-know\/\">that claimed <\/a>he struggled with drinking, including at work. <\/p>\n<p><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/4563979\/comey-potential-third-indictment-trump-doj\/\">COMEY SAYS HE \u2018WOULD NOT\u2019 BE SURPRISED BY THIRD INDICTMENT FROM TRUMP DOJ<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>President Donald Trump filed a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3476214\/trump-sues-wall-street-journal-libel-epstein-birthday-letter-story\/\">libel lawsuit <\/a>against the <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em> last July, alleging it misrepresented his relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Last fall, the president brought a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3809033\/trump-sue-new-york-times-for-defamation\/\">$15 billion defamation lawsuit <\/a>against the <em>New York Times<\/em>, alleging that the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >publication maliciously crafted false reporting<\/a> in the lead-up to the 2024 presidential election designed to undermine his campaign and cause him \u201creputational and economic harm.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>In December 2025, Trump filed a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3918904\/trump-sues-bbc-for-10-billion-over-jan-6-speech-edit\/\">$10 billion lawsuit <\/a>against the BBC after the outlet faced backlash for <span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">selectively editing the president\u2019s Jan. 6, 2021,\u00a0speech.
