The idea follows the court striking down a Democrat-backed redistricting map, which had been projected to help Democrats win at least 10 of 11 U.S. House seats.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report cited, the approach would involve: using a <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >prior <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/supreme-court-unanimously-agrees-police-illegally-seized-a-mans-firearms-in-violation-of-the-4th-amendment\/\" title=\"Supreme ... Abigail Spanberger to sign off on legislation that would lower the mandatory retirement age for state Supreme Court justices, but it would have a major impact on one of the Democratic Party\u2019s loudest talking points.<\/p>\n<p>The move would lead to the elimination of two black justices, including the high court\u2019s first-ever black chief justice, Cleo Powell. Yet it was only last year that the party defeated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/democrat-abigail-spanberger-defeats-winsome-earle-sears-virginia-governors-race\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">black Republican Winsome Sears<\/a> to elect Spanberger \u2014 a white woman \u2014 to lead the state. Sears would have been the Old Dominion\u2019s first black, female governor.<\/p>\n<p>The report made clear that the plan is only tentative right now, driven by \u201cdesperation and fury\u201d in the wake of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/va-supreme-court-rules-redistricting-map-illegal-look-much-cash-strapped-dnc-spent-pass-nullified-gerrymander\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Virginia Supreme Court\u2019s decision<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The report further noted that Democrats aren\u2019t even sure whether the plan would \u201cviable,\u201d let alone \u201cpalatable\u201d to the governor, not to mention to the state legislature.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, the plan would involve three steps, beginning with the invocation of a circuit court ruling from January \u201cthat said the \u2026 effort to redraw the maps was invalid because county officials did not post notice of it at courthouses and other public locations three months before a general election.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Using this, Democrats could then invalidate the earlier constitutional amendment that reportedly created Virginia\u2019s independent redistricting commission. This would empower the legislature with the authority to enact <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/pundit-argues-ai-take-politics-drawing-congressional-maps-bless-heart\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">its own map<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The last step would be for the Democrat-controlled General Assembly to lower the mandatory retirement age for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/justice-breyers-final-a-few-months-on-scotus-dominated-by-abortion-and-guns-cases\/\" title=\"Justice Breyer...s Final A few months on SCOTUS Dominated by Abortion and Guns Cases\">high court justices<\/a>, thus allowing Democrats to fill the court.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans have taken to slamming the Democrats over this proposal:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The Democrats\u2019 gerrymandering scheme in Virginia was defeated by the Virginia Supreme Court last week yet they continue pushing their blatant power grab. Jen Kiggans, a Republican, said in the clip above d to social media.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s the most un-American, slap-in-the-face-to-the-Constitution thing I\u2019ve ever heard,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Even some Democrats have their doubts.<\/p>\n<p>Former Rep. James P. Moran, a Virginia Democrat, told the newspaper that this plan would be \u201cjust a bridge too far\u201d \u2014 one that could easily backfire on the Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that while he understands why Democrats feel their party \u201cneeds to fight back and not just be victims of unparalleled aggression,\u201d he stressed that \u201cwe do have to keep our credibility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have to do things that pass the legitimacy test,\u201d Moran added.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, Rep. Suhas Subramanyam, another Democrat, said that he supports the plan because he\u2019s down with doing whatever\u2019s necessary to preserve the party\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/democrats-virginia-redistricting-map-passes-still-faces-significant-hurdle-becoming-official\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">radical redistricting map<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone has got to have a strong stomach right now; this is a complete disaster waiting to happen if people are timid,\u201d he told The New York Times. \u201cWe have Republican states ignoring their constitutions and interrupting early voting and ignoring their Supreme Courts all together.
