Jeff Landry said he agrees with the Supreme Court decision that struck down Louisiana\u2019s congressional maps as an unconstitutional racial gerrymander, arguing states can\u2019t claim equal treatment under law while <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >allowing race-based districting<\/a>. In a 60 Minutes interview, he defended his choice to suspend Louisiana\u2019s House primaries after the ruling, contending ther is no valid map for voters under which they can choose candidates. His action affected only the five House primaries, while other contests-such as the primary for Sen. Jeff Landry (R-LA) brushed off criticisms over how his <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/4559601\/where-things-stand-louisiana-primaries\/\" type=\"post\" id=\"4559601\">suspension of primary elections<\/a> had rendered thousands of ballots null, after the Supreme Court struck down the state\u2019s maps.<\/p>\n<p>In an <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/60Minutes\/status\/2053619118792643035?s=20\">interview with <em>60 Minutes<\/em><\/a>, Landry elaborated on his decision to suspend <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/louisiana\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"529\">Louisiana\u2019s<\/a> primaries, following a Supreme Court ruling that held the state\u2019s creation of a second <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/doj-sues-texas-over-redistricting-claims-it-violates-voting-rights-act\/\" title=\"DOJ sues Texas over redistricting, claims it violates ...\">minority-majority district<\/a> in compliance with Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act was an unconstitutional racial gerrymander. When asked what the emergency was, the governor pointed to the ruling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve got the highest court in the land says the map that you have is unconstitutional. So, we don\u2019t have a map under which our voters can vote on,\u201d he replied.<\/p>\n<p>When asked what would happen to the 45,000 early voting ballots that have already been returned, Landry said they would be discarded, and then voters would be able to cast them again. When confronted by criticisms from voting rights groups, he explained that the fault didn\u2019t lie with him.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/4559601\/where-things-stand-louisiana-primaries\/\" type=\"post\" id=\"4559601\">WHERE DO THINGS STAND WITH LOUISIANA\u2019S PRIMARIES?<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not my fault. If anybody has a grievance, take it to the United States Supreme Court,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Landry\u2019s suspension of the primaries only applied to the five House primaries \u2014 other state primaries, such as the contentious primary for Sen.
